I'm looking at buying an RCI "week" property - my first TS. It has not been converted to "points".

Questions:

In future, if I buy a property that has already been converted to points, can I deposit these weeks into points?

Is there a fee to do this?

I was told "buying timeshare is not rocket science" - I think it's more confusing than rocket science! :)

If you later buy into a points resort then your weeks time can be deposited using "points for deposit" - cost is currently $26/week to use that system.

Are you buying your week to use or trade?

If the property is a "weeks" property your week can never be converted to points (unless the resort becomes a "Points" property.

but...

you can pay $26.00 and deposit the week through the PFD program and get points for your week.

Buy points to trade - weeks to use.

Then you should buy a points property or a system like Fairfield from the start. Weeks should only be purchased if you plan to mostly use and occasionally trade. There is a shift going on away from weeks trading and into points so buying into weeks for trade at this time may not be a good strategy IMHO.

Can you please explain:
Being able to exchange a "week" into points for the $26. fee. Had not heard this before.
On rereading the post, do you mean you must also own a points week to be able to do this?
Still learning.
