I've been an owner with Divi Resorts for 5 years and have been through their typical owners update a few times. This year I agreed to go so I could get from the horse's mouth info on their Divi Vacation Club to decide if it was worth the conversion. This year the pitch included something that I've never had any developer pitch to me.
Converting over to the Vacation Club would, according to my sales person, involve my moving to the Gold level of the program at a minimum. The cost would be about 2 thirds what our original buy in was. That would get us an extra 5 days, flexibility to check in any day of the week, and a 90% increase in maintenance fees.
The unique part of the pitch: Even though maintenance fees almost doubled we would be saving money. My reaction was: "Huh? How do you get there?" His answer: "Now you're not stuck checking in on the week end. Now you can fly on Tuesdays when airfare is cheaper. That means you can save $600 on airfare or more."
I couldn't believe it. And I'm sure the look on my face said that. Because the guy kept going on about the difference between weekend and mid-week airfares. Now, I know there's a difference. But to make it a part of your pitch and say I would be saving because of it to justify an upgrade? Come on!
Obviously we said no. But to add insult to injury. The next day we were having breakfast and heard another sales guy talking to other prospective buyers. I heard this salesman mention a Silver level of ownership. My guy only talked about Gold & Platinum. I guess he must have forgotten about Silver.
