Simply a must visit area just outside of W Yellowstone, MT!

When someone in Cody, WY mentioned this area and the US National Park site, I remembered having heard something about it here on TUG as well. I had some time during my recent trip to Yellowstone, so I did make the trip out to W Yellowstone and on to explore the Earthquake Lake area.

It was pretty amazing . . . especially since the event took place not so very long ago (1959). For anyone staying in W Yellowstone, I'd say it is a "must do" side trip during your visit. For those staying in Yellowstone or one of neighboring towns (like Gardiner or Cooke City) it will take a bit more time/effort . . . but I feel it is well worth it.

I am in the process of writing my blog (with photos) from my trip a couple of weeks ago. I will for sure include something on Earthquake Lake . . . and will post the link when it's completed.

We loved our visit to Earthquake Lake several years ago. We spent most of a day. Start at the West End with the Visitor Center. Then made various stops to see what we had read about. Look at the huge Rocks (50 - 80 feet tall) that slide not tumbled from the Mountains on the other side of the Valley, etc.

Absolutely. We were there as well. In fact, it was our first stop when we arrived in West Yellowstone. Incredible to see and learn about.

I'm still working on my blog, but did post the entry that covered the Earthquake Lake area. Here is the link.

Glad you had a chance to see this. We've always called it 'Quake Lake.'
