Get Lost in Britain's 19 Most Beautiful Streets
By Edith Hancock/ Lifestyle/ Metro/ metro.co.uk

"Bad luck, Londoners.

We may have the Mall, Piccadilly Circus, and countless scenic spots in our city, but they all pale in comparison to the prettiest streets in Britain.

The Shambles, York’s famous fourteenth century market road, has been named Britain’s prettiest street in recent survey published by National Express.

In fact, just one London location, Ledbury Road in Notting Hill, is included in the 19 winners of this year’s survey...."

Pompey Family - I'm curious what you think about this list. Any others to add to the list?

Thanks

There are some odd choices on there considering the wealth of beautiful streets in Britain however it's all subjective, beautiful means different things to different people. I've walked along more beautiful streets than some of those on the lst but they haven't been as impressive or as famous as The Royal Mile or Grey Street for example and therefore would be unlikely to make the list. All you need is to take your car off the motorways and drive through the towns of villages all over the UK and you'll pass through plenty of wonderful streets most of which will be free of the hordes of tourists that those on the list will have.

This Yank was shocked to discover that I've been to six of them and will visit the seventh this summer! I've been to Wells too, but don't remember that particular street. I think Catherine Hill might be my "most notable."

I wouldn't say they're the "most beautiful" necessarily; some are unusual and some are striking, but you can find similar scenes in many places (Ely? Peterborough? Glastonbury? St. Ives?) and surely Devon and Cornwall are underrepresented.
