My apologies in advance if this topic has already been covered.

When and why did II start charging unit upgrades? I think i know why but would like to hear my fellow tuggers thoughts?

Is RCI doing this to?

TIA

RCI has always done this - by charging more points for a larger unit.

RCI's method is a more true charge for the upgrade. You are limited to the points you have so it's a better balance of the inventory.

With II the only balancing is a deterrent due to the higher cost but you can still upgrade every exchange.

I have a long history of II exchanges. I noticed in this Forum mention of a 1 in 4 rule. I infer it means something about limiting exchanges into a resort but, I've not seen the rule spelled out. Moreover, how do I know which resorts have a 1 in 4 rule? I'd hate to have an exchanged cancelled.

No worries. II does not have 1 in 4.
