1) Where do you want your home resort to be?
  • - Florida and/or Myrtle Bch
2) Do you want to visit your home resort at least half the time, or do you want to trade more than half the time?
  • Trade more
3) What are your 5 top trade destinations?
  • Florida
  • Myrtle Bch
  • Mostly east coast in the beginning, only because we live on the east coast and have kids, so places like Hershey, Williamsburg (Busch Gardens), Florida (Disney, Universal, Sea World, etc), etc.
  • To be honest, I don't know what all of the options are! :) So far, only know re: BG so would love to go to Aruba, but would love to see ANYwhere new!
4) How many people do you usually travel with?
  • 4 counting me (2 adults/2 children)
5) Can you travel any time, or are you locked into the school schedule?
  • Yes, a school schedule is taken into account, but it is private school
6) Can you make firm plans 12 or more mos. in advance?
  • Yes
7) Can you vacation for a full week at a time?
  • Yes, sometimes, but more apt to do this maybe once per year (if that) - we are more apt to take a quick 2-day trip here and then a 4-day trip there, then another 4-day trip later. For example, right now, we have a 6-day trip scheduled in Sept, a 3-day trip scheduled in May, and have just returned from a 2-day trip.
8) What level of accommodations do you prefer on a scale of 1 to 5 stars?
  • No less than 3.5 if possible
9) How much can you afford to spend upfront, without financing?
  • Negotiable, prob around $2K or a bit more
10) How much can you afford to spend every year for a maintenance fee that will come due right after Christmas, and increase each year?
  • $1500
11) Are you a detail oriented planner?
  • Yes
12) Do you understand that once you buy a timeshare, it may be very difficult to sell or give away, and you are responsible for all fees, until you do?
  • Yes

First off..........welcome to Tug. I would suggest that you find a rental at a resort you'd be interested in owning either here or on one of the other sites, such as Red week, and go check it out. No need to jump into something you will probably be stuck with for some time. Should you find one, check the resale's on the afore mentioned sites. The best tip that I could give is...........NEVER.....EVER.....PAY DEVELOPER PRICES ! No need to pay a ungodly amount of money for something you can get for pennies on the dollar.
Pick something you would go back to yr. after yr., in a good location, (what may be good for you may not be for someone else), don't buy with the intention of renting, but could if you had to. Second best tip,............SKIP THE DOG AND PONY SHOW, when and if you do rent one. Good luck !!

I always highly recommend owning at one of the Vacation Village resorts. The ones I've seen for sale most often are Grandview Las Vegas, The Cliffs at Peace Canyon also in Las Vegas, Vacation Village at Parkway in Orlando, and the three resorts in Weston, FL. They all seem to have higher point weeks and good maintenance fees. We own at Grandview Las Vegas and have two 98,000 point weeks with maintenance fees of $765 per year per week. That is a nice amount of points to work with and we are able to get a lot of weeks out of those points. These resorts are all in the RCI program and I pay the extra to be in their platinum program because for us the benefits more than pay for themselves.

I recently booked two sale weeks for around $200 each with no points at Vacation Village at Parkway in Orlando for when our five year old granddaughter comes for her "vacation" with us later this month. I booked the one bedroom as that is all we need. The two bedroom units are actually a lock off of two connected one bedroom units and run a little more. We stayed there for the first time when she was here in February and she loved the activities. Free sno cones, free face painting, the movie nights at the pool with $1 bags of freshly popped popcorn. We were in building 3 which is right by the very nice playground, pool and kids pool and activity center. In addition to not being far from the Disney Parks, the location is great for the nearby restaurants, grocery store and Walmart.

We are also Wyndham owners and just returned from two weeks at Wyndham Fairfield Bay in Arkansas while my husband was working in that area. It was cheaper for me to book the two week through RCI sale weeks than to use my Wyndham points. I was able to book a two bedroom unit for $203 per week, again with no points.
