I am looking to plan a trip to California to relax and visit with Friends.
We do not mind driving.
How far is Oceanside or Carlsbad? That seems to be where most of the timeshares are.
Any recommendations?
TIA

It's not the distance - it's the traffic. Driving in traffic can take hours.

To decide where to stay, you need to know where you are going to spend most of your time. If you are going to spend most of your time in LA with your friends, then get a hotel as close as possible to them - not a timeshare out of town.

I agree with Denise and buzglyd. You DO NOT want to be driving between anywhere and Los Angeles daily. Exactly where in Los Angeles are your friends? LA covers a pretty large area and traffic from one side of the city to the other can be horrific.

There are timeshares in the Capistrano, Anaheim, Newport, Laguna areas, etc. They would be closer to "L.A."

LA is quite large but sometimes people refer to the towns around LA as being "LA" also. So, you might want to look at maps dot google dot come and check out the driving distances to the particular community in which your friend lives. That link will also give you drive times.

But I agree that if you were making a one plus hour drive each way twice a day that it could get a little "old" quickly.

You are getting excellent advice! Stay near your friends. What looks like a 30 minute drive in LA can take two hours any time of the day or week. We stayed in a rental apartment for a week last summer in Belmont Shores, Long Beach that we got through www.homeaway.com because there was no timeshare near our desired location. It had the amenities of a timeshare, minus the pool, was in a perfect location, and didn't cost more than an exchange week would have cost. We made the mistake of trying to drive from there to the Getty museum, which took 2.5 hours one way, mid-day, and had no available parking--so we didn't get in. Lesson learned!

LA is a large geographical area, complicated by terrible traffic congestion. Find a hotel/place to stay near where your friends are.

Unless it is possible that your friends can come visit you at your timeshare.
Let us know if they will... it seldom happens.. just sayin'
