We purchased 67,100 points for $14,000 EOY at Vistana Villages, Orlando. We have never bought from a developer before. Have owned 2 weeks purchased on the resale market. I realize that we are paying top dollar but it seemed as if the perks would help make up for the cost. Money isn't really an issue at this stage of our lives. We want to enjoy the time we have left to vacation. We felt that we could take advantage of the Getaways. However, I don't want to be stuck with something that we will not be able to get use of. What advice would you give us? We can rescind and have no problem doing it. We did apply for the credit card and received 100,000 points on that. Thanks for your feedback!

I would rescind immediately. You can buy the same SVV unit in one of the mandatory phases for next to nothing (might even be able to take a unit over for free) and then pay the MF for the next 10 years with what you would save. You would still get the 67,100 staroptions with the resale just like the developer. The only thing you wouldn't get would be would to convert the Staroptions to starpoints (usually a really bad deal anyways).

Just curious as to which phase you bought into - I didn't know Vistana was still selling weeks - is this a Flex package?

Definitely rescind. Buy resale at SVV Bella or Key West for pennies on the dollar. I would actually suggest buying Platinum season so you end up with 81,000 StarOptions instead of 67,100. If you are actually okay with spending the $14,000, then look in to a resale Platinum Plus Westin Kierland Villas. Can probably get it for about $14,000 and have 148,100 StarOptions.

It is not a week so I assume it's a flex just using the points. What about the Amex card? Is that worth it?

Nothing wrong with the credit card. Though the 100,000 points certainly aren't worth $14,000. I don't think you would get 100,000 points if you straight up applied for the card. So there are extra points in there that are perhaps just incentive to buy?

The current resale price for WKV Platinum 2br is around 17-18k. If you can find one for 14k, I would grab it quickly, but I doubt seriously that you will be able to.

Yes, the points are part of the incentive. We put the purchase price on two cards in each name which gave us points. They gave us extra points as well. Are the getaway weeks part of II or Starwood?

I know someone who has one for $14750 if interested, for 148k Kierland.
Pm me and I'll send you his contact. That's what he offered to me at as I'm looking for a second unit to own, let's see how serious you are.

I bought mine last year for 14k. And I know the timeshare king recently sold 4 of them for $12.5k. Only reason I'm not taking it is because I'm unsure about how much I'm going to use it.

A few in S and VA, a single resort in NC, MD, PA, and UT, plus Jamaica and the Bahamas
They are harder to find but you could get a 1 br platinum at WKV worth 81,000 annual SO's for almost the same MF as the EOY package you were purchasing for less than $14,000 and it would hold 60-90% of the resale value if you sell in the next 5 years vs the less than 5% resale value of SVV or flex points.

Everyone that owns starwood can join II and get the getaways. Both resale and direct. Getaways are part of II not Starwood.
