Group presentation followed by Q&A and one on one discussion. The invite stated 200 or 40,000 reward points. Wasn't planing on going since I attended one in HHI first week August. Got a call to attend. Offered 300 or 50,000 reward points or 3 night 4 day cruise. Asked what has changed since August. I get to learn how the Starwood merger will significantly benefit me. The incentive is good so I will take the 3 mile drive to the hotel and give up 90 minutes on a Sunday at 6pm.

Islandia Marriott is no more. It will become a Racino with video gaming.

Is this a fake news report?

I'd say it's legitimate. For a number of years now MVW has been doing local owner info/sales presentations at offsite locations. They're generally invitation-only with very good incentive packages but if you hear about one you can call to see if they'll allow you to attend.

The ones done at various locations in the Boston area by a sales rep at Custom House are actually pretty good. He's a nice, knowledgeable guy so you can learn things in a pleasant setting, and it's not high-pressure.

The Marriott in Uniondale. It is for various times Jan 27-29th. I got an invite that looked legit. I got a phone call from an 843 area code. I got an email from a valid Marriott email address that I asked a question to and got a reply. I called the Marriott Vacation specialist back and spoke with her.

When it comes to timeshares I am very cautious. I once got the same answer from 4 different customer service reps at II on something I was thinking about doing. All said it was okay but no one ever followed it up in righting without specifically stating what I was told. finally out of frustration, I called up the corporate counsel at II, spoke with her and got it in an email. I use this example because if this isn't legit, kudos to the scammers.

When were you contacted about this presentation? Just wondering if it's full.

Thanks!

These are outstanding incentives!

I attended the presentation yesterday. The format was actually nice. There were 12 tables set up in a room that could accommodate them nicely. Each table had a nameplate and three chairs. Each sales person had 2 tables to cover. It. Started out with a one on one conversation with your sales person, followed by a group presentation and finally your sales person again. This was the least pressured presentation I have ever attended. After realizing I was not going to buy points, I was offered a resale/ point combo by someone else. He started off with "if I can get you a combo package that gets you to $7 per point would you buy". I responded with, let me paint you a picture after which if you can match or come close, I would buy. In 2015 I purchased a summer Monarch for $5,000. If rent it I can get say $2200. With $2200 I can rent 4200 destination points and move them into my enrolled week account. My MF for the 4200 points is 1400. Now, how close can you get to this? My presentation soon ended. The easiest 50,000 MRPs in my account.

^^^^ I alway cringe a little when people throw point rentals in the face of sales reps as a reason for not buying, as after MVC hears that enough times, we will see restrictions placed on renting points. Shhhhhhh.

Don't worry..had it covered. I first asked him if he can keep a secret. He told me he can and we know sales reps aren't allowed to lie.

Deal offered at show -
If you purchased additional 4000PTS / $10.64 Per = $42,560 + 300,000 Marriott PTS (or extra 4000PTS)
Was told the current price was $13.32 Per
Current Maintenance .52 per = $2000 year

After looking at my portfolio and seeing three resale units with only one from Marriott and the other 2 post 2010, they went right to the hybrid approach getting the combined (point and resale) to 7 per point. We never got to the details.

What did you think of the format?

You must have been sitting next to us - We won the Door Prize (Playing Cards and Shirt - LOL!)
Since we own a 2nd market Marriott, we are not entitled to transfer or buy points.
So other then informative (and the points gift) there was nothing they were going to sell us.
We are always willing to hear out if they want to allow us to trade our week for points ...until then this program is mute to us.
We were offered the encore package - still deciding if the 5D/4N 50,000PTS $1195. Use of various Marriott locations. (left a deposit to research more)

I have always ignore the Boston offers but now that I am retired, I may just bite if the price is right!
