We will be staying at the Westin Lagunamar later this year. Where is the closest grocery store? We want to stock up on water, beer, milk, fruits and vegetables for the room for the week. Is there one in walking distance? We will not have a car. Cheers and thanks!

Yes, Soriana is in the Kukulcan Plaza about 1KM south of the Westin Lagunamar. It is in the same mall as Ruths Chris and there is also a Harley Davidson store there. You can either walk or take the bus there. There is a La Europea about halfway between Lagunamar and Soriana on the lagoon side of the road. Get your alcohol and wine here and your beer and groceries at Soriana. Each were just fine for us for our recent 13 night stay.

Also, you can have your groceries delivered from Soriana to Lagunamar for only $30 pesos (about $1.50 US$). Be sure to tell them you want delivery before they start checking you out. Also, realize that the bagers work for tips. They will only deliver the groceries to the bottom elevator down by the lower small circle that goes out to the gate. So if you have a lot, you will want to have the bellhops take a cart with some bins down to help you get it back up to the room. Or you can carry it up in the grocery bags if it isn't too much to manage. Also be sure to tip the delivery guy if he does good job and doesn't bust your eggs or smash your bread, etc.

We find it helpful to use a backpack as one of our airline carry-ons. We use it then to carry groceries from Soriana or Selecto Chedraui back to Lagunamar. Soriana is good and walkable, but the Chedraui is larger with a greater selection and a bit lower prices...but you will want to take a bus there and back, for about $1 US each way.

Thank you for the posts. We always use backpacks for one of our carry-ons too. Many times, after we've checked in, we'll take an empty suitcase on rollers to the grocery store. We fill it up with the heavy stuff and put the lightweight food in our backpacks. One time in Mexico, we had to check the suitcase at the front of the grocery store while we shopped. We filled it up outside the store and then rolled it back to the room. This works well even if we have a car and we are staying at a large resort. Cheers!

Most Chedrauis require you to check your carry-all bag at the door. The Soriana at Kukulcan Plaza does not require that...not sure about rolling luggage, though.

FWIW, Superama is another very nice supermarket (owned by Walmart, I think). But you will need a car or taxi to get there and back, as (last I knew) it's not on a bus line. Or walk a fair distance to catch a bus.
