we recently attended a presentation at the grand timber lodge and ended up being sold a biannual summer week for 16k. We were primarily sold on the 98,000 points we would receive and the ability to use those points on vacations of varying duration. I had no intention to buy going in so was very poorly prepared to ask any relevant questions. I think I'll rescind the contract, but in doing research I think buying a resale in the right program would be the right move for us. Your help is very much appreciated:
1) Where do you want your home resort to be? Ideally, colorado
2) Do you want to visit your home resort at least half the time, or do you want to trade more than half the time? Mostly trade
3) What are your 5 top trade destinations?
Hawaii
Greece
New Zealand
Hong Kong
Vietnam
4) How many people do you usually travel with?
We have 5 kids and would need at least a 2 bedroom with a pullout of some sort.
5) Can you travel any time, or are you locked into the school schedule?
School schedule
6) Can you make firm plans 12 or more mos. in advance?
Sometimes, but planning that far in advance with 5 kids under 7 is not a particular strength of mine. I could possibly make it a habit if necessary.
7) Can you vacation for a full week at a time? Yes.
8) What level of accommodations do you prefer on a scale of 1 to 5 stars?
3+
9) How much can you afford to spend upfront, without financing?
4-5000?
10) How much can you afford to spend every year for a maintenance fee that will come due right after Christmas, and increase each year?
500-1000
11) Are you a detail oriented planner?
No
12) Do you understand that once you buy a timeshare, it may be very difficult to sell or give away, and you are responsible for all fees, until you do?
Yep!
