We booked flights to Cozumel instead of Cancun(price was too good). Now looking for a good place to stay for a week. We would prefer non AI. Any suggestions would be appreciated

Not sure what RCI had, but the II directory only had two properties and both are II.

We just returned from our spring break vacation two weeks ago from Cozumel, and we stayed at the Landmark Resort. We rented a 2BR via VRBO and had a great time. The property is fantastic and very upscale. There were never more than about 10 people at the pool, so it was almost like having a private pool (cabanas included!) If you like to snorkel, this was a prime location as it was right next to the Money Bar which has a huge reef area buoyed off for snorkelers.

The resort is about 10 min outside of San Miguel, so it is very quiet and non-touristy. We didn't bother with a car, as cabs worked great and were very inexpensive ($6 to/from town center). No hassles w/ Mexican police, parking, etc. Way cheaper than renting a car.

The only optional all inclusive resort in Cozumel is the El Cid La Cieba. The reviews seem ok.

Residencia reef condo's is where I would go. You can find these rentals on VRBO.

I've stayed at the El Cid. Nice, but not a 5 Star by any means. Try to get a room in the tower as they've been renovated. The rooms on the 3-level side are old.

There's only 1 restaurant, but sometimes they have dinner on the beach. The staff are VERY friendly and helpful. They memorize your name.

Say "hi" to Bibiana at the desk for me.

Snorkeling right in front is very good, IMO.
Also, the Pronotours had a 3-reef snorkel for like $75 or something when I was there last (this was like 4 years ago?). It was like 4-5 hours (counting boat ride)

We stopped by the Coral princess and looked at some of the units. The oceanside units were very nice, the units aren't fancy but looked comfortable. The pool and ocean were beautiful. You could walk to town or taxi for dinner. The Landmark looks fancier but it is across the street from the ocean and we prefer to stay oceanside.

A slight change in the subject here but what would be more practical to get to Cozumel Airport (CZM) assuming you do not live near an airport that flies non-stop to CZM but live near one that flies non-stop into Cancun airport (CUN)? Flying easily to CUN then taking land and ferry transport to Cozumel Island or taking at least a two-leg flight to CZM?

Also, it appears that it is generally cheaper to fly to CUN from USA mainland or Canada that it is to fly to CZM? So factoring in the cost, does anybody have any idea or opinion which would be more practical?

We looked into flying into CUN (non-stop) instead of CZM (1-stop in DFW), and the deciding factor was the bus / ferry transfer would have added a few hours of extra travel on each side of the trip. We didn't want the hassle of dragging our luggage all over the place. Also, the CZM airport is quite small and the arrival process was very quick.

The price for out trip was significantly more for CUN than CZM?(for direct flights) The Ontario school spring break. We were/are considering doing the opposite and taking ferry/land to go from CZM to Cancun, It will add at least 2 hours to each leg of the trip. As well as the hassle of carting luggage everywhere.

If we can find good non-AI on Cozumel then we would prefer to stay on the island

Had a reservation at the Coral Princess for around $1650 Canadian, but then we found an AI deal at the Fiesta Americana for just $200 more on Priceline so we went ahead and booked that. Haven't been to an AI in over 15 years, but seemed cost effective for this trip

Can you clarify a few details please? First, I'm assuming the price you mentioned is per person and not per couple. Correct? And I am assuming that includes flights from somewhere in ON (YYZ perhaps?). Does that also include a ride to and from CZM to the resort? And is that for seven nights?

What else is included in "all-inclusive"?

Hi

the price is per couple, in ocean view room for 7 nights. It does not include flights as we don't usually do AI(that's why I started this thread in search of a non AI condo) We booked direct flights to CZM(from YYZ) instead of CUN because the price was much lower. Transportation from the airport to the Fiesta is not included. Our total is about $1600 canadian per person, which saves us over $1000 vs booking the same property through Sunwing or AirTransat. Since March break is common for the entire province the prices are nearly as high as New Years week so we are pretty happy with our deal

Non-AI Resorts

Does anybody have any suggestions or preferences for places to eat in Cozumel (near the resorts) if you're not staying in an AI resort?

Places for travelers on a shoestring budget?

Places for travelers who can afford to splurge a little bit?

Don't think I ever saw your travel dates, but you should really try the Explorean just behind FA. Very laid back, can use just about all the facilities and restaurants at FA and includes excursions every day. We spent first week in May and loved it.

Are there any resorts on the island that are points-based instead of weeks-based (or could be a combination of both)?
