Lots of TUGgers submitting slogans for this contest, but the author of the contest has been silent for many days! Have we been 'had'?

I've also felt a tad unsure about these contests - it's kind of like asking us to be an unpaid focus group for someone else's gain - not sure I'd go as far as sleazy or exploitative - but then you did modify them with "borders on" and "somewhat" - anyway, it seems that some TUGgers (me included) have enjoyed sharing ideas and after all it is voluntary so I'll agree with your

And I can't post most of the names that ran through my head. I had to laugh at how awful some were, and I was shocked at how sexist they ALL were. If I said them out loud, my Mother would have washed out my mouth with soap...

This project reminds me of the busty hot-pantsed "Miss Bardahl" lying on the hood of a car...I thought we were getting over that kind of objectification, but I guess not.

I'd rather they feature some talented kids at half-time than Hooters-like women.

no, Rico, you aren't the only one.

I can tell you that as a female, I would not buy a ticket to events for a league that stooped to this. And I am typically a strong supporter of The Home Team for many sports.

Perhaps if the league cannot draw on its own, it really has no business even forming. Using bouncing boobs vs talented athletes to get people to show up says much about the venture.

The league cannot draw people/advertisers on its own and needs something else to sell the tickets. The only tickets that talented kids would sell would be to their friends and family.

Its possible that the league is not kid friendlyas it is nor interested in attracting female fans.

It could just be a beer league and what is being proposed is a natural fit.

thanks everyone for the feedback... regardless of everyones beliefs.

i know that several of you think that this is a free solicitation for free work, which it isnt. there is already one person that has posted they have been paid.. plus by tomorrow I would imagine the winner of the last contest will hopefully be posting they received funds for the 5th gear energy drink one.

i was with some relatives for the last 3 days... by monday I will select the winner. the names didnt jump out at me, but will find the best one. plus love having opinions about the concept.

this concept is just entertainment for the games. sex sells and we are trying to make something fun for the entertainment. we dont know the reaction of the spectators, but we will find out.

Just want you all to know I did indeed receive a check from Adam today. So this is the 'real thing.'

Have fun and stock up on that '5th Gear Energy Drink' when it hits the stores. I hear it's done really well in the blind taste tests.

(I really could have used some as I stayed up late last night playing with the new RCI system. )

Thickey is the winner

CORRECTION, scrapngen posted the name first before thickey. So scrapngen is the winner, but am issuing a check to both scrapngen and thickey due to me not noticing the previous post.

I want to address a few items.

1) scrapngen is the winner. the name basketball d-lights is what we are thought was the best, but modify it somewhat.

2) you can see multiple tuggers that have confirmed my contests are legit and I pay the winning contests. I am sorry that anyone thinks I am just scamming people.

3) I wont use tug anymore for contests. I always appreciated peoples honesty, willingness to help out, have fun, etc, etc. But more and more I find jaded people thinking someone is out to scam them or starting to give negative thoughts about what I was asking.

I am a business person and entrepreneur and loved a place that people would help someone without holding there hand out. Not have to worry that someone would buy the domain names up, etc, etc. And in return I could offer a few dollars for their time. I have launched many businesses, sold many businesses, and failed at many businesses.

But now the jaded people really have put a bad taste in my mouth. I know most of you are not that way but the naysayers are not worth it. I also have a previous contest winner here that is asking for more money for their name. So I cant risk having a lawsuit for using their name.

So I am sorry for having tried to put a fun contest up here. If anyone took offense to my contests, sorry, but you wont have to worry about them anymore. For the ones that offered their suggestions, THANKS, and keep up your good will in other areas of your life as I know you are kind people.

I think people might automatically think 'scam' about a lot of things these days - it is an unfortunate by-product of our society.

This is a totally harmless thing, to come up swith slogans, etc. for a product. No one is being hurt, and if you don't wanna "play", then press the "back" button and move on.

I have enjoyed sumbitting some names, not really expecting to win necessarily, but it was fun while it lasted.

I hope that you will reconsider and give us another chance to play along.

Anyone that thinks ill of you for being an entreprenuer, needs to try it themselves, before they criticize. I applaud you for your efforts, and for using the resources at hand to work in your favor!

I for one, will be watching for your next contest!

I agree with Thickey - I hope you'll continue using TUG for your contests. I find the threads to be an entertaining read, and think it's great that you're using TUGGERS suggestions for some of your entrepreneurial ideas!

I guess I was one of the ones who posted (somewhat) negative thoughts - I do think the basketball halftime entertainment is sexist, and I did feel just a tad uncomfortable at the idea of profiting from volunteers - but the volunteers are willing and are potentially compensated, so that's fine! Please don't count me as one who thought this was a scam; I've also followed the posts announcing who won.

I have followed your other contests and occasionally contributed. I find them fun, and do realize they are legitimate.

Please count me among those who would like you to continue posting these on TUG - it's a fun intellectual (well, sort of) exercise! Don't let a few grumbles (from me or others) stop the fun and challenge.

While I thought your league premise was at a minimum tacky, I wasn't offended by you using TUG for contests etc.

I do think though that if you do a contest with such a large and varied group such as TUG, you should expect a variety of responses and reactions. TUG really isn't the place to do pure research since there way too many variables and outliers. But it is a place where folks will share their opinions freely whether one agrees with them or not.

Just wanted to say thanks again for picking my name!
