Best HHI Resort for Families?

We want to meet my parents at HHI, possibly next summer, and I wonder what resort(s) would be great for kids too? We would need a 2BR and want to be close to the beach (within a short walk at most), near bike trails, restaurants, shops, etc. We would also like a nice outdoor pool.

Marriott's Grande Ocean

Grande Ocean gets my vote. It's simply the finest resort on Hilton Head Island. Beautiful swimming pools, beachfront location, close to Sea Pines Plantation, close to the shops and restaurants at Coligny Plaza, gorgeous landscaping, elegant Coastal Carolina decor. It really is a great resort.

After Grande Ocean, I would pick Marriott's Surf Watch or Baroney Beach Club. I haven't stayed at those resorts, but I have visited them and they are both very nice. Another resort I have stayed at and enjoyed was Kingston Cove. This resort has detached cottages with three bedrooms and is a great place but doesn't have the amenities of the Marriotts and is not on the beach.

I have heard many good things about Grande Ocean, and we are (almost) always happy with MVC. Thanks!

Would you trust a former SLC resident, from 41 years ago? Or does the fact that I was visiting there five days ago count?

I also vote for GO first, with the other Marriott resorts close behind. They are all II resorts. For RCI, I would choose Waterside, about a five-minute walk from the beach and less to shopping at Coligny Plaza.

Trading into any of these resorts between late July and mid-August will take a dynamite trader.

We would not be trading, but rather renting from someone. I only own DVC and use that exclusively for Disney trips. It seems like GO gets exclusively great reviews! My uncle owns at Waterside and they love it there too. Thanks!

I definitely recommend Marriott's Grande Ocean. It has a great location, nice big units (clean too!) and it is right near the entrance of Sea Pine's Plantation's bike trail. We rode everyday we were there, out to Harbourtown, etc. I think it's an ideal choice.

There is a Disney on HH.

I have thought of HH Disney too, but it's not on a beach. It may not be a huge deal, but we do have 2 daughters under 5 so logistically I am not sure. I would like HH Disney just b/c it does have some Disney benefits though, and we could use our DVC points. Thanks to everyone so far.

I would call Disney on HH and ask what beach they use. You want to ask them how far is the beach from Disney. Disney is in a great location. They also have a fishing pier.

Disney is not as convenient to the beach even though they have a shuttle. I would definitely say Grande Ocean is your best choice. Barony would be my second choice with Surf Watch or Monarch my next choices. All are on the beach. As an exchanger, you would probably get a garden villa at Barony. There is a pool at the garden villas but it is a little further from the sand. Surf Watch is nice and they have a shuttle to take you over the sand dunes to the sand. Monarch is right on the beach and in Sea Pines. We were headed out to Grande Ocean this morning but there is a 60 % chance of showers so we think we will go after church tomorrow. Day passes are wonderful and living near HHI is a dream come true.

One vote for Marriott's GO, next the Marriott's Barony and the Marriott's Monarch at Sea Pines and last but nor less Disney's HHI. Finally the Marriott's Harbour Club, Royal Dunes at Port Royal and Port O' Call.

All are great resorts and with in a 5-10 minutes walking distance to the beach. With one exception Disney's. Enjoy your week on the island.

GO close to Sea Pines and Coligny. Monarch in Sea Pines and Shipyard Plantation resorts on pope Ave close to Coligny Circle. Sea Pines has the best bike trails.

Barony is very nice and there are a few toddler fountain type pools as well as a great large fitness center that faces the pool and a Spa next to the Westin in North End of the island.

Harbor Point,older,smaller but central location next to pretty Shelter Cove,lots of activites. 5 minutes to the beach. Summer trolley Palmetto Dunes area. Being refurbished.

Yes, Disney is there too, but far removed from the beach, Sea Pines, and the bike trail. Also, Disney sits near the sound, not the ocean. The resort is nice, but not ideal if you will be in HH to go to the beach.

MGO is our number one choice-- we own there. But we have thoroughly enjoyed DVC HHI, too. For us, shuttling to the beach wasn't a bother-- the CM's who drove us there were a good source of island information. I don't think the biking is nearly as good here vs. MGO w/its Sea Pines access. But we probably enjoyed our time at the pool more due to the fact that the resort pool has a fun waterslide. I don't think you could go wrong with either. Surf Watch and Barony would be our 3rd and 4th choices. And then I suppose Monarch.

Although Monarch is older and has smaller units it is still my choice due to its location right on the beach; right on a primary bike trail; accross the street from two golf courses; inside Sea Pines; close to Coligny Circle, Harbour Town and South Beach.

Palmetto Dunes

We just finished spending our first week on HHI in the Palmetto Dunes section. Yes, The Village At Palmetto Dunes is not a 5 star resort but it gets a 5 star for proximity. PD is located in the middle of the island right across from Shelter Cove and we had an easy walk to the beach which is situated on the ocean not the bay/sound.

MGO can be a tough trade. As a fallback, I second Waterside. Zero entry pool as well as kiddie pool with sprinklers, etc., free wireless in the lobby, huge units. We had a three bedroom and it was lovely. Short walk to the beach. My two-year old loved the pool so much though, that we mostly hung out there.

Also, she loved the lagoon where she could feed the turtles, etc.
