Hello. I have a 24 hour hold on an exchange/reservation for the second week in June at Smuggler's Notch. The one bedroom unit code starts with SY (reported to sleep 6). Can anyone tell me what those units are like (location, view, quality of the unit). There will be two adults and two small kids.

Seems the summer program begins June 8, so I'm assuming everything will be at full-swing???? Is June a good time to enjoy the offerings of the resort? Is it very crowded at that time or is one able to enjoy the activities/pool without feeling too claustrophobic? We've never been to a "family resort" with so many activities so wasn't sure what that would be like. Is the resort clean and well-maintained? I'm not looking for 5 star luxury, but would like a nice, fun and relaxing vacation for my family.

One last question, can a 3 year old make it up the path to the reservoir? Does the reservoir (Rum Runner's Hideaway) have the feel of a lake and is there a little beach there? (seems they have boats to rent). I'm hoping so as we love to vacation near lakes.

Thank you!!!!!!

SY= Sycamores. This is one of the newer buildings - built 5-7 years ago. I owned a one bedroom Sycamores myself and had two small ones at the time. The bedroom has a king and a twin with trundle. My two children, ages 6 and 3 fought over who got to sleep in the trundle and who "had to" sleep in the bed. They loved it. So, the bedroom is quite comfy for 2 adults plus two children. There is a small waterpark - pool and some water features just across the road from these units.

June is my favorite time to be at Smugglers. I've generally had great weather. It's usually in the 70's. Your unit has a wall air conditioner which should be sufficient.

The resort is very clean and well-maintained. Have a look at the reviews.

The activities should be in full swing. There might be something specialized which wouldn't have started then.

You know, I've been to Smuggs many many times, but have yet to get to Rum Runners. There's so many other things to do! My children never could be pulled away from Little Smugglers Lagoon.

extra fee

i was going to confirm an exchange for june as well, until i noticed this: "RESORT CHARGES A $275.00 SUMMER REC FEE FOR USE OF THE RESORTS WATER PARK AND CERTAIN AMENITIES. FEE IS UNIT PER WEEK."

as i have no intention of using the water park, i feel that this charge is too much. i am now looking for an alternative.

The fee is not mandatory.

If the kids want camp you can pay the full fare and if your are OK with just using the Courtside pool then why pay it?

I don't think a 3 year old could manage the hike up to Rumrunners. Very steep walk but we felt it was worth the hike. No beach but nice staggered dock area with chairs. There is no food/drink there so remember to bring a backpack with things to eat/drink.

Yes, there's a beach - for little ones

Sorry to have to disagree with Lawren, on just one point - the beach at Rum Runners.
There IS one, it's geared for little kids; you have to walk all the way around the reservoir/lake, and most people don't do that. There is a shallow walk in area, perfect for a three yr old, and a little sandy beach , also a large bench swing and some sort of playground equipment was there last summer.

The reservoir is stocked with fish (license needed for age 15 and up) and has paddle boats for rent in addition to the swimming. Reservoir is very deep but there are tubes for floating in and life jackets are mandatory for the non swimmers.

It might be hard to get to with a 3 y.o. unless someone is prepared to carry her. Best bet IMO is to drive to a parking area, (resort can tell you where) and then climb a short but steep hill to flat ground and the reservoir.

Weather should be good and I don't think the resort will be super crowded as most of us in the northeast are still in school.

thank you!

Thank you for all the information. It was really quite helpful and informative! We have decided to go and are really very excited about the trip/exchange.

Thank you again!

Have a wonderful time!

Sharon

P.S. Jellson...if you don't plan on using the water slides/other pools, then I don't think you have to pay the fee.

when will the summer program start in 2008 ?

Will June 6/7 2008 be the starting day for summer program for the next week ? This is the latest week I can see with my poor trader, so it probably won't be.
