What are you giving your Husband? are you cooking something special? Or where are you going out to eat? One of our sons will be here with his 3 1/2 year old son.

We live on the lake and will probably jet ski and boat etc. I would love to hear of any new Ideas to make it special for both of them! thanks!

Our son is taking Dad fishing in the Gulf Sunday, followed by dinner at our daughter's house. We don't know yet whether our 'middle' daughter will be up from Key West or not. But she will at least call Dad on that day.

I don't usually give dh anything. He's not my dad. ;) He treats me the same way for Mother's Day. But, our dds will do something, and I am taking everyone out to dinner. :D

I'm driving 500 miles to see Dad arriving Sat night prior and am going to spend 2+ weeks with him at home in SC, then to NC mountains, then to HHI. He's 89 and time is precious.

As much as I would like to stay local and just relax, we will also take a drive to see my wife's dad, who is 84. We are the only one of his 4 children that never miss spending a Father's Day, or Mother's Day for that matter, with my in-laws. They get so much out of spending time with my kids, as my wife and kids do, that it would be criminal not see them on each and every special occasion, even though sometimes it is inconvenient.

My in-laws are "salt of the earth" people, and I owe everything I have to them for producing such a wonderful daughter, so it is the least I can do, to take alittle bit of a backseat to my FIL on Father's Day.

Regards.
Joe

I am going to be cooking the other half of the very large standing rib roast DH bought for Mother's Day. I just wish I knew when to start defrosting it.

DH already opened his present! He said the package had his name on it.....I couldn't argue that point.

I always call my dad but this year he'll be on vacation with us! First time for it and I am so hoping it'll work out :)

We'll be in Destin, FL at our newly purchased TS there and on the actual day we are going to the Big Kahuna Waterpark as it's free admission for dads with a child... so my dad get in free with me (hey, even though I am 44, I am STILL his child :D ) and hubby gets in free with little girl - can't beat that! Little girl and I have already bought the requisit t-shirts for them to wear to the park...so hokey, but fun.

And Spence is right - time is precious.

We celebrated Father's Day early. Our daughter/husband/baby spent a week with us in Park City. A great day to celebrate Father's Day.. even if it was early. We will celebrate with our son/wife/3 kids with a BBQ here at home on Father's Day.

My crazy hubby thinks that maybe a new motorcycle is in his future. (Admittedly, his "old" Honda is in need of some work.) His nephew got a nice crotchrocket as a wedding gift from his bride this past weekend and he quipted "Gee I didn't get a gift when we got married!" (Never mind that he got a brand new van "for his birthday" the following year after our marriage.)

Since our 5 year anniversary is coming up 7/1 and with "Pappa's Day" this weekend, he's been hinting around. LMAO!!!

I love the big lug just the same . . . so don't get me wrong :)

Father's Day

My dad passed away many years ago and hubby ignores Mother's Day, saying I'm not his mother. BUT I've bought him the new Lee Child, Jack Reacher book on CD and will prepare him fried chicken and potato salad.

We're heading to Cape Elizabeth Maine tomorrow so that our daughter and son-in-law can take his mom to Paris for her 70th birthday. We get our darling grandbabies for a week all to ourselves. Hubby agrees that this will a a wonderful father's day. They don't leave until Sunday so we have a couple of days with them before they leave.

Janette,

Have a great vacation with your grandchildren. Can't get any better, I am going to Tennessee to be with my youngest two grandsons - Eric & Will.

I will pour myself a shot of Jack Daniels, and toast to the memory of my Dad.

He passed away when I was 19, but I will always remember the fun we shared and the wisdom about life he left with me.

Celebrating the fact that I'm NOT one! ;) (And my wife's not a mother either. :D )

My wife and I are visiting our Son in Wichita Falls, Texas. What we do tomorrow will be determined by the weather which doesn't look too good. We arrived a week ago and will be going back home to sunny Southern California next Saturday.

Cheers to all Dad's!

If you see this again share some of his wisdom! and anyone else. I know I need some wisdom....

oh and we're going canoeing!

Rugga-Rugga-Rugga.

On Fathers Day 2007, I helped The Chief Of Staff install new carpet throughout our dinky 34-foot CoachMen travel trailer that never travels, only just sits there on its postage-stamp-size lot in a nice little park near Rehoboth Beach DE. The only rug & carpet store over there that even condescends to give estimates for recarpeting travel trailers came out & measured & wrote up an estimate of $1,250 (materials & labor) -- just their way of saying they really didn't wan't the job, I suppose.

So The Chief Of Staff picked out a nice looking color & style in high-tech, premium-quality all-nylon carpet squares & bought lots of those from Home Depot. Installation only took her most of Friday & Saturday & Sunday & Monday, with lots of gopher-type minimum wage caliber help from me. Plus, I ripped out all the old faded & worn carpet, a job that was harder than I expected. So it goes.

Both our sons phoned me Sunday to say Happy Fathers Day -- much appreciated because it's always nice to hear from them, not to mention nice taking a break from all that work.

Before we drove to Delaware for rugga-gugga-rugga, my older son brought me a Fathers Day gift consisting of a big bag of Hammond's Pretzels. Yum. His mother- & father-in-law live not far from the Hammond pretzel bakery. My son knows I like hard Pennsylvania Dutch pretzels, so he supplies me with Hammond's (which he & I consider the best) when he & his wife & little boy are up in that part of the country visiting the little boy's other set of grandparents.

So even though rugga-rugga-rugga & other associated heavy-duty chores are no fun, it is wonderful being a husband & father & grandfather, having people who want me to help them do things, people who care about me, having a Chief Of Staff who counts on me, the whole catastrophe. For the life that I have been given to live so far, the only honest & appropriate response is gratitude.
