Hi all,

Hubby, 2 year old and 5 year old girls, and I are going here in early March. We will be doing Ben & Jerry tour, Vermont Teddy bear tour, cabot cheese tour. What else is a must see/do in this area. We're staying at Trapp Family Lodge.

Thanks!

I noticed that this is your second thread about Trapp. I've been off-line for a while, so I will respond to this question and also go on about the resort for a few minutes. We own at Trapp too. Our family really enjoys the peaceful natural beauty of the resort and the village.

You have listed the major tourist attractions. There is also a cider mill close to Ben and Jerry's, on the opposite side of the street, that was rated by Gourmet Magazine as having one of the country's top-10 donuts. Our family likes to walk around Stowe. The little library is very nice. Your kids might like story time. There are some nice restaurants and shops.

For more TFL info, go to www.trappfamily.com, click onto activities and, on the left side of the page, click on this weeks activities. This listing changes seasonally, but you can get a pretty good idea of what to expect. Trapp is a world-class cross country ski center and the resort is close to downhill skiing and snowboarding at Mt. Mansfield.

You could also just go sledding right out in front of the even-numbered timeshare units (they are built on a hill), and, when the kids are done, have some tea or hot chocolate in front of the unit's large wood-burning fire place- maybe even have some pasteries that you purchased earlier in the day at the bake shop (under the Austrian Tea Room) (check for hours). Then a nice family swim in the beautiful indoor pool.

Any other questions, just ask.

suggestions for Stowe

How about a nice horse drawn sleigh ride ?? Often the rides are offered and this year there is LOTS of snow !!! It would be fun for the kids. THe Teddy bear factory is great and they can even make their own bears... Stowe is a pretty little village and typical New England. They might have a web site of their own to check out for schedules of events.:D

It's the Cold Hollow Cider Mill, and the cider donuts are to die for when they are hot and fresh. You might want to drive as far up into Smugglers Notch pass as you can (the road won't reopen until later in the spring), and walk through, though I guess with a 2 year-old, that might be hard. You could also drive up and around the Notch and come out above Smugglers Notch and explore the towns of Johnson and Cambridge, or continue up to Burlington--the ECHO center right on the lake would be perfect at your kids' ages.

In Stowe itself, we enjoy eating at Pie in the Sky, usually take in a movie at the Stowe Cinema, and while we enjoy biking in the summer, I wonder if the Stowe bike path is suitable for winter walking? Probably more like X-Country skiing or snowshoeing.

Enjoy!

Seems like there are a lot of us who like Stowe and TFL. It is a special place! While there this past summer, I was looking thru the phonebook and noticed that there was a section in there that listed walking trails (!). We took a few of those walks and were very pleased that we did. I would imagine that this would not benefit the folks who are going this winter, but for the rest of the year, this is a great tip.

Does the gondola operate in the winter? I don't think the restaurant at the top is very good, but I think the ride would be fun for little ones.

Stowe in the winter

You all present a very appealing picture of Stowe in the winter......I admit to being a wimp about cold weather, so I stay at the TFL during the autumn to enjoy the fall colors......but sipping a glass of wine in front of the fireplace.....aaah!

Enjoy! I'll be back in September!

I assume you're at the High Country Club property in Stowe? We're there the following week starting Tuesday. :D

yes, we are spending New Years week there and I am looking forward to it. I will check out Jan 5...it would be cool if you could drop by and meet us. I will leave some graffiti on the wall for you ;)

Bill,

We won't be arriving until Tuesday the 8th. Stick around till then and I'll buy you a hot chocolate or the libation of your choice. Otherwise, I'll look for the graffiti that you leave.
