Why?

Because today The Devil made me set up an eSnipe-Dot-Com robo-bid on (another) eBay timeshare.

I need another timeshare like a moose needs a hat rack -- like a rooster needs knee sox -- like a pollywog needs a wet-suit.

So I set eSnipe for some paltry maximum bid amount & that's that.

I will not get caught up in any bidding wars. I do not have my heart set on winning. If my robo-snipe gets me a steal, so be it. If I am outbid by somebody who's willing to pay closer to what the timeshare is worth, I will experience nothing but the feeling of relief.

Both things happened with esnipe on this past Wed and Thurs. We :D Won on Wed and did not win on Thursday.

Both were floating weeks 1-52 at a 2 Gold Crown PV resort . One was a 2 bed 2 bath REGULAR we won for about $1,000 and the next night the 2 bed 2 bath DELUXE we lost on went for about $2,500.

We were happy with our win for that price in comparison with the other's price.

Both are Ocean Front units with the Deuxe's Master Bedroom being Ocean front and the regulars bedroom not being Ocean front but both living room being Ocean front plus they both have balconies over looking the Ocean.

I think I have room for :D 10? more good ebay buys and another :D 10? more great ebay buys.

Alan,

If you PM me with the auction number and your maximum bid, I might be kind enough to save you from yourself.:hysterical:

Although I do have a bit of that moose and rooster thing going myself !!;)

I didn't know about esnipe when I bid on my first timeshare, but the devil made me put in a bid, knowing there was no way I'd win the auction but I did win it. Then I had to tell my husband what I'd done. He wasn't pleased, but we're enjoying what that week has enabled us to do. :D

I have no regrets but that is exactly how I won a nice week during racing season in Ruidoso, NM for $1.50!

We don't have any "accidental" eBay timeshares (yet), but I will admit to having 2 "accidental" eBay horns -- 1 keeper & 1 I'm ready to shuck off. (The Chief Of Staff knows all about'm -- graciously never even scolded me once.)

On the keeper, I sent in the minimum opening bid fully expecting to be outbid forthwith. Nobody else bid at all, so I "won" the horn for the opening bid amount.

Same thing happened to me on the horn that my "accidental" horn replaced. I put the old 1 on for $999 (no reserve). The winner got it for $999 -- although she told me later she had entered a "proxy" bid of $1,500 expecting when the dust settled that she'd be high bidder at $1,350 or so. Neither of us thought there would be just 1 bid. She never expected to buy a professional-level horn so cheap for her conservatory student son, & I never anticipated I'd get taken to the cleaners so bad. So it goes.

That horn, BTW, is the 1 pictured via my TUG-BBS signature link below -- a customized Yamaha YHR-668N. The "accidental" replacement is a stock Yamaha YHR-666N that I like lots better.

For my eBay non-keeper "accidental" horn, I proxy-bid $800 or so. The opening bid amount was $625. No other bids came in, so I got the horn for $625. I arranged to meet the seller so I could pay for the horn in person & pick it up myself rather than pay $40 or so extra for shipping.

Bruce,
Congrats on your win for the Gold Crown Floating. I wondered who had a snipe bid on the Thurs nite auction. It went so much higher than I expected. . It appears my maximum was higher than yours, though I must admit I did not expect it to go so high!!
The difference in the standard 2 bedroom and the deluxe is that the deluxe has a bedroom that is oceanfront with the second bedroom being in the back of the unit. The standard 2 bedroom has both bedrooms in the back of the unit. Hence, the deluxe has 2 oceanfront balconies. That is why we hung out for the deluxe. I still think that we got a great deal and since we spend a month or more in PV, this will help with accomodations. So I guess we are partners in crime:banana:

Our snipe bid did not show up. I was a bit surprised at the price, but even though it went higher I still think you got a very good buy at one of our favorite resorts.

We are very happy with the price we that we won with the night before for that 2 bedroom regular. We have liked that resort since we first saw it about 6 years ago.

If I did not own 3 high time 2 bed 2 bath World Wide Vacation Clubs we bought in 2007 that gives us rights at the Lindo Mar, then I might have bid about $3,600 for the unit you won.

I fact we stayed in a 2 bedroom deluxe and the master bedroom is very nice. You have a great unit. We will be happy with our 2 bedroom unit we won the night before.

It does not have the view from the bedroom like your deluxe, but I think that the regular 2 bed has the same type of veiw from the living room balcony as the deluxe 2 bedroom has from its living room balcony.

I will send you a email.

Bruce :D

Congrats.

I've thought of using a sniping service before, but my concern is that you are giving a third party your user ID and password. How long has e-snipe been around? Do people generally feel they're a trustworthy company?

Clearly it beats logging onto eBay in the final moments of a given auction (and keeping track of that time). I just question whether the risk is worth the reward?

Not questioning the sanity of anyone using such a service, just trying to get a grasp and comfort level with it.

Thanks!!

I used auctionsniper, which is a division of ebay. I've used it many times. They literally go in with your bid about 10 seconds before auction end.

I've never worried about any risk, since bidding on something does not involve paying for something. They of course have no access to your $$.

Actually they say that they're an "eBay sniper" but at the bottom of their homepage they also say "AuctionSniper.com is in no way affiliated with eBay.com. "

Long time.

Yes.

I'll say.

For a long time I was a holdout for old fashioned manual eBay sniping, the way God intended. Then I goofed up 2 or 3 attempts at manual sniping, back to back, & was able to admit (since it was obvious, bigtime, by then) that eSnipe or 1 of the other similar eBay automatic last-second bidding services is better.

So it goes.

Helmet Still Strapped On. So It Goes.

eSnipe worked just as intended (as it always does), but that didn't stop some other bidder from outsniping me.

It was not a matter of seconds, either. It was a matter of dollars -- $230 above my bid -- not just a few cents.

The 2 most recent eBay purchases by the person who outsniped me are both timeshares (according to the winning bidder's eBay feedback).

No major disappointment here at getting outsniped -- I need(ed) another timeshare like a toad needs a toothbrush.

But if I'd snagged it at a ridiculous price, I'd have been pleased.

Ebay Sniping

I have not used snipe services.

I usually just put in my top price early on (days out), and let it ride.

If my bid, usually under $500.00 does the trick, it suits me fine.

I have bid up to $500.00 on some timeshares, and ended up getting them for $200.00 or so.

I know another person who bids often on ebay timeshares, and he has a certain amount that he always bids, sometimes he wins and other times he loses.

Most people it seems, are very happy with their ebay timeshare purchases.

I am too dang successful lately winning bids on e-bay to use a sniping service. I don't need another timeshare anywhere for any week, but I keep seeing timeshares I know I like, and I bid so low that I couldn't possibly win. I recently won one for 1 penny with the seller paying closing costs and resort transfer fees and me only paying 2008 MF's. Someone please snipe me.

I am going to have to quit my job to use all the weeks I own. But then how will I pay all of those MF's?

Sometimes a snipe bid happens by accident, too. My last ts purchase was an oceanfront at Pahio@Kauai Beach Villas. I put in the eBay auction's opening bid of $279, expecting a fair amount of competition. So I set my maximum bid substantially higher, but still within my limit.

Imagine my shock when NOBODY ELSE BID! I won the unit for that one measly $279 bid. I'm not complaining, but I was sure surprised! :D
