I was stressing a bit even though I have no refund policy. I'd still feel bad if he loss out on his rental.

Whahoo! What a relief!

As I wrote before - the same happened to my renter - when they went to buy airfare for 4 - it was over $1000pp RT. I never heard back from them - so I assume they found a way to get there cheaper.

Pedal boat? :D

Seriously, airfare is still over $1k for July. And Delta just added a $110 fuel surcharge onto the cost of each ticket. Yikes.

So you do think it will be harder to rent Hawaii out.?? Do you think we will see weeks at Hawaii go up for sale because of airfare.??

People are absolutely cancelling their plans to visit Hawaii (among other places) because of the airfares. With air being our only real option (if you take a cruise ship you don't need lodging), airfares doubling is pricing Hawaii out for a lot of folks. If I didn't have enough miles to get 3 award tickets, we wouldn't have gone this year. At the time I booked, the cheapest airfare was $1100 RT for coach. With the added fuel surcharge that would have meant $4800 for my family of 4.

There are far too many places that I'd visit before I'd fork out that kind of dough for transportation.

I don't know if you'll see tons more units go on the market (there are already quite a lot), but with fewer buyers willing to buy in Hawaii (because of the cost of getting there), the prices will definitely drop.

The pundits are now saying that with fuel prices so high it won't be long before even places like Disney feel the crunch. They can't afford the $750 price tag to drive.

I was watching an EOY 2BR WKORV unit on eBay that sold a few days ago for $10,000. I wanted so badly to justify bidding, but I didn't.

Last night an EOY 2BR Waiohai sold for $10,5000 and an EOY 2BR Ko'olina went for about $10,100. All of these are cheap prices, but the WKORV was a steal. I wonder if any will pass ROFR.

I sure hope so :) I'll let you know

We'll uncork a bottle of champagne if it does: To celebrate your good fortune and to help drown the sorrows of folks who paid twice or three times that much from the developer. ;)

I was just looking for airfare for early June- before peak season- San-Maui and the cheapest was about $800 as I saw a 1 bedroom available at the Marriott Maui.

the honeymoon couple's air is also booked.

We got our air fare a while ago for this June.

My niece just booked her airfare for her Oct honeymoon. I'm so glad - I was worried airfare would be too high for them to go. I know it will be the trip of their lifetime.

Just bought 4 tickets from SFO to HNL at ~$350pp RT for this Sept. Gotta love the Amex Plat 2 for 1 program.

The lowest I could ever price an itinerary from CVG to HNL was $550pp, which was still a good deal. But by the time I added in the annual fee for the Platinum card ($450 for 1st card +$175 for 2nd card (you need a 2nd card in order to fly 4 of you because a card member has to be one of the travelers) and the RT intraisland airfare to get to Maui ($150pp), it ended up being $850pp. With the hassle of adding another 3 hours to our trip, I decided it just wasn't worth it. If we traveled more, it could definitely be a great benefit.

I certainly agree. The $175 for the 2nd card is also good for the 3rd and 4th card. I got the 3rd card for my mom and the 4th for my in-laws (of course they pay me back). The other benefits are great like SPG Gold (I didn't qualify with my WKORV resale purchase) and the Fine Hotel and Resorts program. I know the folks at Flyertalk complain alot about the program (and about everything else) but it works great for me probably because I'm not loyal to any domestic airline.
