Looks great! (Especially the water!!)

Question: I had thought that all units were ocean view at this resort, is that correct? This picture makes me wonder if there are units on both sides of the building, or perhaps it's just a corridor on the inland side? Anyone know the answer? TIA!

I'm guessing the corridor is on the land side.

I'm happy to see that the bigger "U" is more likely to be complete by October. :)

Thanks much for posting the picture!

Deb

Muy bonita!!!

Gracias, Sherilah. I hope you enjoy your weeks in Cancun.

Yes - you could see the corridors pretty clearly from the street - we must have gone by there a half dozen times when we were in Cancun a few weeks ago. The location is great!

The left side of the "U" is phase 1, phase 2 is the right side and phase 3 is the area all the way to the right.

Great picture!!! Looks really nice and that beach is fantastic.

Nice Picture! I sure hope it was taken about a year ago or so, and not this month.

Also, I bet those big through openings in the lower floors of the “U” are to ease wind pressure/resistance in the event of another hurricane. They look more functional than ornamental to me.

Those openings along with the distal ends of the “U” being capped with buildings that are placed perpendicular to their respective end segments (which are also at alternating 45 degree angles from the coast line), suggests that this structure was designed to allow the weak, long side of each segment to be buttressed by the strong short side of the adjacent segment in the event of a large wind force arising from the coast.

Very clever and a big aesthetic improvement from the pre-existing hurricane resistant structures in the area -- like that boat-shaped building seen on the left side of the new construction in the photo – that survived the last hurricane primarily by having its strong, short side positioned directly into the wind, but also forced the majority of views from that building to be perpendicular to the coast.

I’m just surprised that SVO allowed all of that usable & potentially sellable villa space to be “wasted” like that. Maybe their insurer required it. Thanks insurance industry!

Last year, we stayed at the resort to the left in the picture - Park Royal Pyramides. The beach area is fantastic. Hidden by the Phase 1 wing are some Mayan ruins. The parking in the lower part of the picture is for La Isla. It is a very short bus ride to the club district and a nice walk to Kukulcan Plaza. All of this means that Lagunamar has a great location.

We were at the Westin site before they had completed excavated the site. The water/beach is very nice, great blue water.

This is going to be a Top resort in Cancun. Enjoy WLR owners!

Those end units are being sold at a premium in Phase 2 abd phase 3.

I think you're right, nodge. When we did our pre-TUG developer purchase of WLR last year the salesperson told us the design was for hurricane stability. In this case I actually believe her. I'm not a structural engineer, but I'd rather have holes than sails when it's windy on the beach (and I'm not in a catamaran or a sunfish, that is).

On the other topic, we weren't offered any premium views when buying, and I haven't seen a price sheet for them. On the other hand, when looking at the hotel rooms offerred thru SPG.com for the property, one has the choice of an ocean front or ocean view room. You'd have thought they learned their lesson in Hawaii....

Now I'm REALLY Worried!

Anyone know how old is the photo?! Our reservation is Aug. 15th - Aug. 22nd, only 4 days after they're scheduled to open!!

If this photo is very recent, then I'm REALLY worried about the condition and availability of various resort amenities like the grounds, the pools, spas, and the restaurants! I'd hate to travel 10 hours to get there, paying exhorbitant airfares, then find many things unavailable or in marginal working order. I'd be so disappointed and pissed! :annoyed:

I'm pretty sure it's not a recent photo. I think it's at least a few months old, if that helps. I can try and find out, if you'd like. Let me know!

I was there in mid-June and based on what I saw I would estimate that this photo was from late April???

We were booked from Aug 9-16/08 was informed that property won't be ready by then, they converted our week to starpoints and booked us at Westin Resort & Spa. We decided to spend 3 nights in Tulum and 4 nights at the Westin (Aug12-16) but informed Starwood to switch us to WLR if property is indeed ready by August 11. 'Keeping our fingers crossed, would really love to stay there.

Thank You!

Thank you! That made me feel SO much better!! :whoopie:

I'm much more reassured that the resort will be in decent shape when we get there in 10 days... We can't wait!
