Why do I see so many bidders with names like j***9, and y***4 etc? Just curious.
Those are disguises that eBay applies to people's real eBay user names as a way of discouraging all-round eBay-related bogusness. Why do I see so many bidders with names like j***9, and y***4 etc? Just curious.
Thanks to the miracle of web-browser "cookies," eBay's electric computers can tell who's looking at a particular eBay web page. If it's the seller of an item, bits of information like bidder identities, payment status of completed auctions, etc., are visible that the rest of us can't see when we're viewing the very same page.If I remember correctly the idenity of those bidders is only concealed until the end of the auction.
Thanks.Alan you are histerical. I love your stories and insight.
It is an Americanized corruption of a German phrase that became G.I. slang following the occupation of Germany after WW2 & lingering on into the mid- or late-1960s or so -- basically meaning "never mind" or "it makes no difference" or "I don't care."I like the name of the blog you are launching. Is it a reference to a German phrase?
My son, who got me the domain name & set up Mox Nix Blog for me, added a bunch more entries -- all from the annals of TUG-BBS, with some of the TUG-BBS material entered as blog-entry "comments" when the originals were follow-ups from later on in the same TUG-BBS discussion topics.I hope you'll consider adding to the blog on a regular basis.

Someone we know who is making ends meet between jobs by selling stuff via Craig's List & eBay says that eBay now reports sales to the IRS.
Not only that, as of yesterday I also have the horn back -- in 1 piece & all ready to go.Hilarious story - amazing that you got the 150 back!
