Selected Grande Ocean, any advise on buildings?

I know that as an Interval exchange guest (we own at Hyatt), we will most likely NOT have an ocean view building. And, the fact that we are checking in on Christmas Day may work against us as well.

But, any advise on which building we could possibly request? Any "views" that we just would want to avoid?

Any advise about the resort is most welcome as this will be our first visit here (after staying at Disney's resort several times).

Also, any advise for Christmas/New Year's Eve dinner/festivities on the island?

Hopefully, you can see the picture. If so, draw a horizontal line thru the map just above the Royal Tern and Kingfisher buildings. The line will denote what is Oceanfront and what is Oceanside. Below the line (including half of the Dolphin and Starfish buildings) is Oceanside. As an exchange, you will likely be in one of the 6 bldgs below the line or the bottom half of Dolphin or Starfish. They have cut the trees in the last few years and now a 4th or 5th floor room in the Pelican, Sand Dollar, Sand Piper or Laughing Gull bldgs will allow you to have an unobstructed (in many cases) view of the ocean. So, high floor (there are only 5 floors) should be your first request if that is important to you. If you get a 4th or 5th floor room in almost any of the oceanside bldgs, you will like have at least some view of the ocean. The toughest views are in the Royal Tern and Kingfisher bldgs because they sit behind other bldgs. Hope that helps!

My I suggest you ask for a high floor in the following villas, The Dolphin, The Starfish, The Laughing Gull and The Sand Dollar. Enjoy your week @ GO and The Island.

Are there 3 view catagories? Oceanfront, oceanview and gardenview or just oceanfront and "oceanside"?

The are only two view categories at Grande Ocean. These are oceanfront and oceanside. If you read my previous post (w/ attached map) you can clearly see there are many more oceanside units than oceanfront. That being said, there are excellent views to be had. I was there during spring break this year and had a 5th floor room in Sand Dollar and had a spectacular view of the ocean. Mornings were so nice on the balcony!
