We are booked into the Fairfield Nashville on Sept 8 and am looking for suggestions for things to do, places to go, places to eat.

We do like to hear music int he evening, so are there places to go to do this?

We like history and natural areas too.
I am not really intersted in shopping.

Does anyone have the Enteretainment Book and can tell me restaurants ont he punch card.
any specific tours we can take?

Thank you for your help.

Music in the evening ? The only problem you're going to have with that is choosing where to go to listen to the music.

The entire downtown area of Nashville (about 15 minutes from where you are staying) is absolutely saturated with music venues. From BB Kings to Tootsie's to the Wild Horse Saloon, and a million places in between.

I was just there the first of this month and the resort is very aggressive about pushing activities. Real activities not all sales pitches. (Daily calls to rooms) I would suggest you contact the resort directly or just wait til you get there. They have shuttles, rec center concerts etc. I was there for a different purpose so these were just an annoyance to me but if you are looking for something to do....

I was there a couple of summers ago and thoroughly enjoyed my evening at Wild Horse Saloon (good food and decent live music/dancing). I did take the resort sponsored tour (by van) to Jack Daniels distillery in Lynchburg, TN. They offered it as the premium (gift) for taking the "Owners Update" presentation. The tour was actually conducted by Gray Lines.

On another trip to Nashville many, many years ago, my sister and I took in the Grand Ole Opry which we both also enjoyed. We got tickets weeks in advance of our trip, however, since we were only going to be in town for one night and it was a Saturday.

Oh goodness, Kelli's favorite place!! Ok, where to start!! Music: besides downtown, as said before Music is everywhere to one of my favorites, Nashville Palace, esp on talent night. Holy camolie, what talent you will hear!! It is really close to FF. My fav downtown is Legends Corner, Tootsies, & Wild Horse. Be sure to take some tours with Tootsies Tours, I like the Graveyard Tour and if you haven't done so do the Homes of the Stars tour. Do NOT and I mean DO NOt miss the Mystery Tour / FF Nashvillle/Tootsies & tell Tommy Kelli & I said hello. That was the most fun of the day.

Good country food and a must is Monell's near downtown. I have pics I can link you to from my trip and I think my trip report is still oy. Hugs, Shaggy

Absolutely...

Absolutely, the first moment you can...maybe the first evening, visit the Opryland Hotel. If you don't immediately change your reservations to that hotel on the spot , after seeing it, I will be shocked. I may even drop to my knees in horror.....

That is exactly the experience we had....checked into the downtown swanky Loew's Vanderbilt Hotel...it was beautiful...probably the most exclusive hotel in town, BUT....after we visited the Opryland Hotel that same evening (on a suggestion by a local, to dine at one of their restaurants) we canceled our Loew's reservations and checked into the Opryland Hotel...even the lobby will blow you away...(if not, the service sure will)...

It's like a huge "city under glass", and you'll NEVER see anything like it....Yes, I understand the Fairfield and it's nice rooms at a good price, and maybe the rewards points stay (maybe you're doing that), but you cannot miss the Opryland Hotel experience....

And believe me, it's NOT full of "big-haired country bumpkins" who are there for the Grande Ole Opry, as the name of the hotel might suggest, but it's full of business people, normal families on vacation, dignitaries, those attending a convention, or STARS (who have a private concierge and room location)---just to name a few----but it's just beyond imagination...

Besides the Las Vegas casino hotels, Opryland is widely known in the industry as THE LARGEST hotel in the world....it's spread out over acres, with botanical gardens INSIDE with walking trails, a real river with a riverboat ride going thru it, and all covered by glass-domed roofs in each atrium....& there are more than one...Cascades and Delta. The "water show" in the Cascades section is great...and ongoing....

Just walking around you will get lost, and around every corner is another great sight.....several nice restaurants, too. You won't believe the Thanksgiving feast they have all afternoon in the ballrooms!!! Live stringed instrument band and tables a hundred feet long....gorgeous! and the Christmas decorations will blow your mind....it should be a national treasure....They even have family sing-along Christmas carols each night in one section in the middle of the gardens, in a little open-air amphitheatre.

We have gone there for Thanksgiving for 5 straight years...used to go to Grove Park Inn in Asheville, NC (similar great experience), but wanted a change, and the kids (21 & 18) love it...they love both, I should say........we'll probably change again in a couple of years, but we love the big hotel thing at holiday time...

We combine our timeshare weeks with hotel stays to make an exciting year of family fun....Summer and Spring weeks at t/s's , Fall (Oct) in mtns to see foliage (huge 5-BR cabin with kids' friends) in Gatlinburg/Pigeon Forge area, Thanksgiving somewhere, and maybe a surprise trip or three , on a lark, scattered in ......jme

Demo's Italian Restaurant, downtown Nville is good. Opryland. There's a river cruise that sails the Cumberland. Titans, if you can get tickets.

Just Returned From Nashville

We just returned from a weekend in Nashville. We really enjoyed visiting The Hermitage and Belle Meade Plantation. We wanted to also visit the Parthanon but ran out of time.

My wife and I have traveled extensively and one item which is always on our agenda when visiting a new city wherever---on the first full day there, we always try to take a Gray Line tour of that city and then if need be another which centers specifically on our interests, be it art, museums, flower gardens or the like. Why reinvent the wheel?
