We were just confirmed into Grand Ocean for mid-October 12-19th. I read all the weather sites and see the weather is generally in the mid 70's during this time. But now I am wondering is this going to be warm enough to enjoy the beach. I would like to hear some comments from those of you who are very familiar with mid October in Hilton Head weather.

We decided to return again after our great trip last year at the end of September when we stayed at Surfwatch.

How was it at the end of September. I suspect the air temp will be about 4-5 degrees cooler and you might have some days in the 60s but you will also have a few days in the 80s. I would think that unless you are the kind of person who needs it really hot to enjoy the beach you will be fine 4-6 days of the week and may have 1-3 cooler days and can plan on other activities.

How do you like to enjoy the beach? If you like to walk or bike on the packed sand beach, you'll enjoy it at that time of year. If you like to sunbathe or boat, it's a great time for that too. Swimming in the ocean is probably fine for northerners or people accustomed to cooler water (are you from Canada or California with the cool Pacific?). Unless you are unfortunate to have a hurricane come through, it should not be too windy or cold - at least not for most days. The fall weeks are great for quiet, uncrowded visits. Enjoy!

We go to HH the first week of November every year (we own a fixed week)
and I can't think of a year when we haven't been walking on the beach,
playing golf and riding bikes. Temps may be anywhere from the 60's to 80's, but it's my favorite time of year on HH. No crowds! (We don't swim in the ocean, but do swim in the heated outdoor pool at our resort). So unless you
will really miss swimming in the ocean, I think that's a great time to go...

I like to walk and ride bikes. My wife likes to to sit and read under an umbrella. Sounds like the weather will be perfect for what we do. We live in the Southern California Area and glad we found Hilton Head. Without Tug never would have even considered going there. Although last night my wife asked why aren't we going to Hawaii again. Thats the beauty of being the one who plans the vacations. Thanks for your comments. Can't wait til October!

My good friend Chris, you should be fine. October is a fantastic time to be there. On rare occasions it might be chilly a bit early (not cold, only slightly chilly), but 4 out of 5 times it'll be perfect.

We'll be in Boston then, otherwise I'd be there to greet you. Last October we were also in Boston, and there were days we were sweating while walking around the North End.......so the Southeast will not disappoint you.... talk later

Hi Marty,

Good to hear from you. My wife and I are looking forward to our return trip. Glad the weather will be fine. I can't wait to go to the place that had the Rib Eye you had recommended. They also had one of the best salads Ive had, with lots of cheese!! This year we will fly into Charleston and spend a couple of nights there first. As I get closer I will probably send you a few questions.

Chris
