The combination of $39 flights, very low credit exchange, and family not too far away have me headed for Nashville soon. I have fairly firm plans for 3-4 evenings but would like suggestions for daylight activities in addition to a few more evenings. I wouldn't mind seeing how high the water got in the flood, a walk in an interesting park or area, or other local must sees not usually in the tour books. And good Barbecue would be nice.
Thanks in advance,
Jim

Red Neck Tour Bus

We were there last year for a week and the most fun we had was on the Red Neck Tour Bus. It still has us laughing now.

My favorites were the General Jackson Riverboat Dinner Cruise, the Country Music Hall of Fame, and the Ryman Auditorium. Going to the Grand Olde Opry would depend on who was in town at the time.

did the above plus Hermitage, franklin's two civil war sites, Historic Mansker's station, the Parthenon, Belle Meade, Belmont house, Stone river, a Civil War site in murpheysborough, Cheekwood botanical Gardens, Traveler's Rest,
went to a few dinner shows, saw the Elvis show with the person from the wyndham, kept pretty busy.

The highlight of our trip to Nashville was the Bluebird Cafe.
A small venue in a suburban strip. Four professional musicians (always different, depending on who's in town) sit around, sometimes taking turns, sometimes jamming together, sometimes trying out new material.

There's a simple dinner menu. You crowd around, listen quietly and enjoy.

I snapped this picture from my table while they were setting up:

Andrew Jackson's estate (The Hermitage) is very interesting and a nice day trip, and just 12 miles from Nashville.

In addition to my post about The Hermitage, we also did the Belmont Mansion in Nashville.

We enjoyed Neely's the best, which is not in the downtown area. It is worth the short drive to get there from the Wyndham (approx. 15").

a word of warning.
to go to the grocery store they have you drive down McGavock Pike, about 5 miles. We returned from downtown and then drove to the grocery store. what they failed to mention is that the grocery store is on mcgavock Pike and labonon Pike. It appears that Mcgavock Pike goes East, but it bends and goes south so we drove unnecessarily, we could have stopped on our way home from downtown.

LOL good for you to figure it out the first time . . . it took us twice! :wall:

Carnton Plantation in Franklin. My boys loved the real Civil War Blood stains on the floor. I bought the book the Widow of the South, set there, very good.
I say Grand Ole Opry no matter who is playing just for the experience.

Hey Eric, hope you are doing well. I am surprised you didn't mention Monell's. That's my fav. Good ole country cookin. Nothin fancy but I really like it. You never know who you see there. One of the Oak Ridge Boys, William Golden was sitting at our table. Kelli got really excited.

There is also a tour of the graveyard where a lot of country stars are buried. Really neat.

Go to the Opry & the Ryman. There is a small museum at the Opry that is free. I can go on & on. Love that city!!!! shaggy

Thanks

Thank you for you prompt help. The food and entertainment suggestions sound like just what I was hoping for. I am going to look for the "Redneck Bus Tour" today and hope it isn't seasonal. I feel better about spending a week in Nashville now.
Yours,
Jim

Jim, when we went for the second trip there, we figured we would be bored. We were so busy and found something to do each day. the entertainment book had a lot of coupons that i used.
A word of warning, I had the Entertainment coupon for Nashville Nightlife . they said they would take it and made a reservation. When i got there, they would not take it, said they were full, but gave us a table against the wall off to the side. they cater to bus trips. show was good, food was so so.

Jack Daniels Distillery & Miss Mary Bobo's Boarding House

If you want a day trip, check out Jack Daniels in Lynchburg, TN which is the seat of Moore County, the smallest county in Tennessee. Even though it’s home to the Distillery, it’s a dry county and has been ever since Prohibition. And while the Distillery may be the main attraction here, you don't want to miss other local favorites like lunch at Miss Mary Bobo’s Boarding House and a trip to the Lynchburg Hardware And General Store. If you want to explore all the sights in Lynchburg, take your time. There’s plenty to see.

Another day trip is

LORETTA LYNN’S RANCH
LORETTA’S PLANTATION HOME
BUTCHER HOLLER HOME PLACE
SIMULATED COAL MINE
LORETTA’S 18,000 SQUARE FOOT
COAL MINERS DAUGHTER MUSEUM
LORETTA’S FRONTIER HOMESTEAD
NATIVE AMERICAN ARTIFACT MUSEUM
GRIST MILL MUSEUM
LORETTA’S FAN & DOLL MUSEUM
WESTERN STORE
GRIST MILL GIFT SHOP
PLANTATION SHOP
LADY LORETTA’S BOUTIQUE
ROCK-A-BILLY CAFÉ & SNACK BAR LORETTA LYNN’S RANCH

44 HURRICANE MILLS ROAD
HURRICANE MILLS, TENNESSEE 37078

DIRECTIONS:
FROM NASHVILLE, TAKE I-40 WEST, EXIT 143 AND
