I am looking to purchase 231000 Wyndham points at a resort that I would like to visit at least every other year. The points I would be purchasing are for every year. I am looking at resales and I can actually do better buying every year use compared to EOY.

Am I correct with the following scenario - I purchase at resort A, which would then be my home resort floating week, I would then be able to reserve at resort A 13 months out for that year.

The following year I would be able to reserve a 7 nt stay at any Wyndham property with availability 10 months out. Or as an option I can reserve a 4 nt stay any where that has availability 10 months out. I could also reserve a 3 nt stay in that same year 10 months out as long as I have the required points.

Would all of the reservations be made directly through Wyndham? I believe I would be able to make all the reservations online through the Wyndham website and not have to get involved with any exchange companies. If I wanted to trade outside of Wyndham then I would have to deposit into an exchange company like II , RCI etc.

I would like to be able to go to the home resort every other year but also have the flexibility to break up stays in different areas during the other year. Am I looking at it correctly or am I missing something. Thanks

Sounds good

Perfect. You seem to understand the system perfectly (rare for a new buyer) and that every year ownership even to use every other year, since its all points anyway, makes good sense. Buy resale and enjoy!

ARP

You are right on for a new owner. Only comment is that you cannot do a 13 month ARP on line. You have to call in for that transaction as they only show 10 months on line.

Thanks for that info. I did not realize that. Is there any charge for reservations? or any other charges to be aware of.

You may have to pay for extra housekeeping credits as it doesn't matter if you stay one day or seven, they still cost the same.

You may also have a transaction fee. You get so many per year based on amount of points that you own. If you do a number of short stays you may not have enough and need to pay for some of them.

Also, you can only get a reservation with ARP at the 13 month mark, IF THERE IS AN AVAILABLE UNIT. Call early, like 7:599999AM Eastern ;)

As for the 3 or 4 night stays, some resorts have restrictions during Prime time (and even some or all the rest of the time) that those short night stays must checkin or checkout on certain nights (like FRI or SAT) and be a certain number of nights. The owners book will show that info on the points charts page.

Additionally, the RTs work around is to book several stays on the same calendar day - so instead of booking 1 vacation on Monday and the 2nd vacation on Wed (using 2 RT), booked them both on Wed. The RT is good for the entire day. HK (housekeeping credits) are a whole nother topic - based on unit reserved size, 2 nights usage is the same as 7 nights. You get 231 HKs, but regardless of the points used to book a reservation (ie Resort Special discount). HKs are on the unit size.

Bet you are going to be glad you did well in H.S. Algebra ... as you will finally have found a use for algebra with Wyndham points.

You get 3 free transactions (1 free transaction per 77k), you also have enough HK credit for 3 1 to 2 BD stay (1 credit per 1K, and 63 HK for 1 BD stay, and 77HK for 2 BD stay). You may not have enough points for them especially if you try to stay over the prime season weekend.

If you take 2 1BD internal stay and put the rest of point to RCI (or II depends on which resort you first buy), you can put upto 3 week worth of stdio, and extend your vacation by 5 different stays.

1 transaction can allow you to make multiple reservations/RCI,II deposit over the same day. If you plan ahead, it usually enough.

Some resort's parking will have extra cost (Altantic City, San Diego, Wakakki), some resort may have activity fee (Kingsgate).

RCI/II exchange does has extra cost. But mostly are manageable.

Enjoy the product.
