Grand Mayan Nuevo Vallarta
We just returned from the Grand Mayan in Nuevo Vallarta and a two week exchange there. Everything we read about it before leaving on TUG was very accurate. The Miller Transportation free taxi to the resort worked well. Of course, you have to pay your own way back to the airport. The resort is beautiful, it is easy to get around on the Grupo Mayan complex and to the other two resorts the Mayan Palace and the Sea Garden, all by golf carts driven by resort staff. It is only a 30 peso taxi to the Paradise Village Mall and everything you need can be gotten there. We went into Walmart once but it was a long bus ride to and from. Scrutinize your final bill as they tried to hit us with "valet parking" and use of the safe, neither of which we used. You have to make a written statement that you didn't use these, which I found a bit patronizing. I mean, I had no car, did not rent a car or borrow a car, they just threw the valet parking on there without reason. Same with the safe charge. I didn't take my laptop because they want 14 dollars a day to use it or the one in the room. The internet cafe at the mall was much, much cheaper and convenient. We had good meals at La Laguna, Guido's and at the resort, although the latter was pricey. The Lazy River and the pools were the highlight. Of course, being on an RCI exchange, we couldn't get an ocean view room, but that didn't matter as I talked nice to them and we got a nice 8th floor Grand Master Suite with a view of the golf course. All in all, a nice resort, but we probably won't try to get back in there. We had dinner with sailboater friends on three nights in La Cruz, a nice little town just north of Bucerias.
