I think the 2010 usage and having to fork out that 2010 MF for what would likely turn out to be a poor usage week in 2010 scared people away.

There have been some intermittent crazy prices on Ebay lately, with large fluctuations. I think to a certain degree it is a matter of luck, and for some reason some auctions get overlooked. Others get more attention than they should.

Ebay mentality can be strange. I was looking, out of curiosity, if there were any gift cards for a certain merchant. Anyway, there was a $300 GC that was already up to $305 in bidding. For the life of me I can't imagine why people would do that, but people do strange things.

Although savvy Tuggers may be concerned about the usage week for 2010, I don't think that is a concern of most bidders beforehand. I think the price just reflects the depressed economy and people's reluctance to take on another financial obligation.

speaking of ebay

I think one of the best Ebay deals going, at least for Hilton Head lovers, is Waterside by Spinnaker. The resort is very well located, just a short walk to the beach, and right down the road from Grande Ocean.

I bought an annual Waterside 2-BR floating week (ANY week of the year) for $20.14. Yes, 20 bucks. The maintenance fee is well below what summer weeks rent for, so occupying is a deal, and conversely, I can rent it out and make money.

We've stayed there a couple of times within the last two years when we wanted a last-minute spontaneous getaway (my Marriotts were sold out), and we enjoyed it just fine. The units are very nice (see resort pics online) and comfortable, and the grounds are quiet and lovely. Pools nice too. I would say the resort is a small step below Marriotts, but for the price, about as cheap as one can get to own something remotely close in quality.

Also found out thru the resort that I can book not only my Waterside week, but can also book weeks at a couple of other Spinnaker resorts at Hilton Head, specifically Egret Point and Southwind...... Cool!

Watch those ebay auctions.....some crazy things are happening. Glad I got lucky. jme

Not sure if that is precisely the one I got, but I paid just about that for a Platinum Sabal Palms, with maitenance fees paid for 2010 (and our occupancy beginning 2011). We've already reserved a week for next year.

It is a good time to pick up some Marriott weeks if you are patient.

I agree! I've been watching ebay for about six months now and have bid on three Marriott Grande Vista weeks, each went for more than I wanted to pay. I finally got one through negotiations on a week that was listed as a "Buy it Now" and "Make Offer." I guess I made them an offer they couldn't refuse!

People sometimes pay face value or a little more for a Marriott G/C because they can get eight to 15% off through Bing.com and eBay buy it now.

I have just started the Grande Vista search on ebay myself. Saw one 2 bed lockoff platnium go last night for $5100 + 2010 dues and fees. Is that the going rate?
