Reckoning for Manhattan Club?

At one time Manhattan Club was the prize of the TS world, but it seems to have fallen upon hard times. A studio booking for next Jan costs < 21,000 RCI points. A booking for a studio Jan 2010 cost ~ 64,000 RCI points. Has anyone seen anything similar?

Wow, that's quite a great price! Grab it while you can. We just got back from a very enjoyable week in NYC and stayed at the Manhattan Club. It's still a great place to stay.

I agree. It's still a great place to stay. I'm definitely not complaining about the price drop, but I'm an exchanger not an owner. If I were an owner, I'd be upset about the drop in value. I looked to buy a unit at the MC several years ago. I am so, so glad that I never found one in my price range.

I agree. We used to own at MC, but were fortunate enough to sell our unit about five years ago. We went to the sales presentation last week, and it was incredible to hear that the annual maintenance fees have risen to about $2300!

I think that point value is a mistake

MC has not been showing up in RCI Points for months now. It was back as of two days ago but those point values were very screwy. I'm pretty sure if you tried to book, it would adjust to the real point value.

I booked a studio for < 21,000 RCI points without a problem online. So far so good. I looked again today, and the prices are higher but not by much. A 1BR is 47,680 points while a studio is 23,672 - 28,160 RCI points.

What's your check in date? I could not find any availability for next January. The result list shows a 1 bedroom available, but when I click on it to see the date, I got this message "Sorry, there is no availability that matches your search request. Please adjust your search parameters and try again - if you continue to get this message, please call the Call Center. (PTSR009)"

The week I booked starts Jan 10, 2011. When I look today (as of 5 minutes ago) there were still weeks available with a check-in date of Jan. 11, 2011 (Tues). I started the RCI search with the resort ID (4064) and started the search out as far as possible (Jan. 11, 2011). The RCI points search is very buggy.

Thanks, Larry. It seems like I can only see them when I search for 7 days. I used to search for 1 day only just so that I can see everything. I agree the web site is very buggy.

Wow, something is wrong with RCI points value. I did see MC at lower value earlier this week. Now a studio sleeps 2 from Jan 8-15 costs 66950 points. How can they change the points value this fast, can RCI charge more points than they give the owners?

I agree. Somethong is definitely FUBAR, perhaps RCI itself. However, I'm quite glad to capitalize on mistakes from RCI or the MC. I booked a week in Jan for < 21,000 RCI points. The RCI point value can vary quite a bit even in the same month, but I've never seen this much variation for only a few days difference in the check-in date.

I should have followed your lead But I can not use a week. Now that the points value are 3 times higher, I can get the 2 nights I can use for the same amount of points. At least the exchange fee is less.

Unfortunately, I missed out on the good deals. The point values are much higher now.

I think that Jane and Larry are right, the 21000 points was a mistake - but if that is what they charged then why argue? I don't imagine that they will tell Larry that they made a mistake and want some more points out of him - but with RCI I wouldn't bet the house on it.
Currently at MC a 2/2 studio is going for between 53800 and 66950 points between Jan 7 and 15, with the earliest being dearest. Why the points values fluctuate literally on a daily basis defeats me.
I also see that the Hilton Club is available in January, with a studio going for between 47000 and 59000 points between the same dates.
Any comment as to which would be better?
Derek

I've already received my confirmation from RCI for a week at MC for less than 21,000 RCI points. I can't compare MC to Hilton for you because I haven't been to the Hilton Club, at least not yet. I can tell you that the MC is still well worth staying at. The MC has not renovated to keep up with the times. At one point, it may have been equivalent to a 5 star hotel in NYC, but not anymore. MFs have also risen excessively. However, the MFs aren't an issue for those exchanging in. Compared to 3-4 star hotels I've been in, the MC is more luxurious and convenient. You could look at RCI or TUG reviews to compare the two. Honestly though, the accomodation in this case is secondary to the city.
