I rented a unit from someone on redweek. However, we've had a family crisis and can't go. Can I re rent the week I've purchased (marriott)? It's a lot of money to waste. We have a contract. It does say we can get someone else to rent if the same amount of money is paid in full. The week starts Aug 19th. What do you think the chances of renting it will be?
lol
Thanks:p

You have asked two questions

1) can I re rent a rental and you have answered your own question when you say your contract allows it. So yes

2) what are the chances of getting it done ? And that answer is: it depends.
I would contact the owner, he might have a waiting list and you will need his help if you find someone. He can also repost his re week as I'd post an ad here on Tug and I have found that Craig's list shoppers are notoriously "last minute" I'd post there too

Good luck
I've rented stuff as late as the check in day. So don't give up

Don't be attached to getting all your money back. You may end up renting for a few hundred dollars, but at least it's better than a total loss.

You have already paid the full price, so just find a renter, tell the owner to add their name to the reservation, and keep whatever they pay you.

In most cases, only the owner can alter the name on the reservation - I don't think Marriott will change it for a renter. The OP's first step is to contact the owner, and discuss it with them.

Many rental contracts (...including mine) specifically address and clearly prohibit any "sub-lease". If your contract contains no such prohibition, there may well be time for you to find another renter, but maybe not at the price you paid. It's not the owner's problem or responsibility if you have to absorb some loss in a late "re-rental".

I agree with Denise's suggestion to first contact and communicate directly with the owner, who might have a potential "backup" tenant available (and who will have to change the name on the exisiting reservation in any case, from wherever any such "alternate" is found, whether by the owner or by you). It's surely worth opening a conversation with the owner ASAP, since you'll need the owner's active participation and concurrence in any scenario to get the existing reservation into a new name.

That's what I said to do:

I'm sorry - I wasn't very clear. First, before I even thought about looking for a renter, I'd discuss it with the owner and be very sure exactly what the parameters are, because they have to have the owner's cooperation. There is no point is finding a renter, until they have discussed it with the owner.

Of course it wouldn't hurt. But the contract says they can get someone else to rent.
