So I reserved my gold 2 br SDO for a spring training week end of March 2017 thinking of taking my 2 kids. Well....they now both have different college spring break weeks. So......am I better off trying to rent the week or depositing both halves into II. I'm leaning towards depositing both halves but fear depositing this late might (?) hurt my trading strength as well as the unknown deposits into II. Not looking for an II trade for 2016 since our plans already covered. Goal would be to either trade for fall 2017 or fall 2018 into wkorv(n) or use proceeds from rental to help rent something.

For depositing VSE (Vistana Signature Experience) weeks you actually need to cancel your reserved weeks before you deposit. VSE bulk deposits behind the scene and you get the blended trading power of your season. You can deposit your 2017 week on January 1 2016 or December 31, 2017 and you will have the exact same trading power. The only difference with depositing late would be less total time to make an exchange in II.

Unless you want to start an ongoing search now in II, another option would be to keep the reservation and keep trying to rent it. You can cancel as late as the day before check in and then designate the unit(s) for deposit.

SDO is a so-so renter. If you market it aggressively, you can probably cover your maintenance fee, but I wouldn't expect much more than that.
