2014 Usage Week

Folks,

A question for the esteemed members in these forums. I own a single sport week at Marriott Cypress Harbor. Due to events beyond my control and also due to my complacency, I was unable to make a reservation for the year 2014. My account is in good standing. While looking on the website to get a reservation, I am unable to see any sport week.

So my question is, what are my options in order to get a reservation and then try and deposit my week with II as a deposit first, or do I write off my week for this year?

Thoughts, suggestions would be very welcome and helpful...

Sport season at Cypress Harbour is Weeks 18-23 and 34-50. At this point Weeks 38-50 are the only ones remaining in the 2014 calendar year and as you're no doubt aware, the Reservation Windows for them opened 13/12 months in advance.

It is possible that the remaining 2014 Sport Weeks have all been booked by Owners but it's also possible that Marriott has taken any that are within 75-or-so days of check-in (as they have the rights to do.)

When folks buy resale Weeks and the Reservation Windows are already open for the current Use Year, Marriott will work with them to deposit something into II so that they get at least an exchange possibility. Yours isn't exactly the same situation but it might be worth a try to call Owner Services to get either a similar exchange deposit or one of the Weeks taken by Marriott (if there are any.) It wouldn't surprise me either way they respond, if they work with you or hold you to the reservation stipulations, but it shouldn't hurt to ask. Good luck!

A few in S and VA, a single resort in NC, MD, PA, and UT, plus Jamaica and the Bahamas
Also go ahead and make your 2015 reservation now. Then you won't have to worry about it next year.

Saxman and tschwa, I want to say thanks for these reminders. For a number of reasons our vacation plans for the next couple years are up in the air and in the midst of real-life I'd forgotten to get on the ball with possible 2015 usage. Thanks to you I just signed in and booked some things that may or may not work for us, but at least we now have options instead of me completely forgetting and not doing something before it might be too late.

Just goes to show, anybody can get lost in the Marriott web.

We do this frequently. It is better to have something than be in the position where there is nothing you can get. More often than not, things work out.

Good luck, saxman! I hope a VOA will work with you so you get something out of your week.

Did you try the II Exchange Marriott Deposit option online? That is the equivalent of the VOA working with you to get an II replacement week deposit for you.

Well, I was able to get a reservation for a week which I then deposited with II, the downside to that is that it is considered a late deposit. Unfortunately that was the only option available. I am hoping that I can get pointers on how to go about searching for exchanges considering that I have a late deposit now.
Thank you for your replies.

Saxman, My suggestion would be to call the Marriott Desk of II and go through your options (dates, destinations) with a rep. They can check much faster and will take the time to find an acceptable trade for you while you're on the phone. I have often found that they have availability before it shows up online. They can also guide you to where II inventory may be more plentiful in line with where you want to travel.
Good luck.

Searching II

There is a lot of information here on exchanging with II. But, as a Tug Member, there is a very helpful sticky under Sightings/Distressed that has lists of Marriott, Starwood, and Hyatt codes. Copy and paste to your II search. Search frequently for something that fits your schedule.

A late deposit means you can only trade for a week where the check-in is 59 days or less away. If you check often you can find some great trades within 59 days of travel but sometimes that makes the air travel a lot more expensive. That is why we normally use <59 days for travel where we can drive to the resort.

Good Luck

luvtoride,

That's what I did when I was on the phone with II, put in an ongoing exchange request. Hopefully something works out, otherwise, I'll have to look at II frequently to figure out where we can drive.
