I know that SDO has the Starwood preference.....however has anyone ever deposited their 1 BR (small side) with RCI? Does anyone know how many TPUs a 2014 week would be worth? Do I need to call Starwood to have a particular week assigned to it? Thanks.

Starwood does not allow you to deposit a reservation, but they do have to make the deposit for you, so yes, you must call them or go online, and request the deposit. You will get a generic credit - the TPU depends on the season, but it won't be a lot.

I checked this out a few weeks ago. The deposit calculator indicated that each side of my 2 bedroom would get 22 TPU's as long as I was at least 9 months out. So 44 TPU's for two deposits. The full two bedroom was still in the 20's as I recall.

I have deposited for the past few years and received 19-25 TPUs for each side.

Do you feel get better trades with RCI than II with your SDO?

It's not really a matter of better or worse, it's a matter of where you want to go. For instance, Marriott and Starwood are primarily affiliated with II, and DVC and Hilton are with RCI.

However, the main difference is that with II you have first priority for all Starwood deposits, and with RCI, you don't have any priority.

Regarding TPU - the highest TPU is 60, so 19-25 TPU is not a lot, if you are going for something like a Disney Exchange. Also, how early you deposit, and your deeded season will impact the TPU - it isn't fixed.

There are also the small, independent exchange companies, and sometimes that may be the way to go, if you know they have inventory at a resort or destination that you are interested in. For instance, our primary vacation destination is Hawaii, so I deposited our 2014 SDO week with HTSE.

To choose an exchange company, you really need to know where you want to go, first.

Yes, DVC at peak times such as summer or school holidays will be 50-58 TPUs, unless you're grabbing it a week or so before check in and then it might be reduced a bit.

All of the areas you have already visited are easy trades. I will consider doing it when I want some location I cannot get in II. RCI has more locations available.
