Disney is a good comparison, because like Disney, he literally built things others hadn't even imagined. Henry Ford would be another apt comparison, politics aside.

One commentator on CNN likened him to the Thomas Edison of our time...

He brought computing to the masses with the Apple II and MacIntosh. There were some spectacular failures (Lisa, NeXT), and Pixar was not the overnight success many think it was. But his second-coming at Apple brought forth products that clearly "put a dent" in the universe.

How come the technology were use in our personal lives are so much more advanced and cool than the stodgy old technology we use at work? Our generation was lucky to have such a game-changer.

CNN actually was playing steves speech at the graduation of Standford on the lead in for Anderson Cooper show.

Not a big fan of Apple due to their closed architecture. However he will go down in History alongside the great inventors. Edison, Franklin, Bell, Whitney, Jobs.

Unlike Gates & Balmer Mr Jobs was a true innovator. I'm not an Apple fan as he was too controlling over the environment (understandably so as it let them protect it better but also led to such foolish things as banning Adobe Flash among many others) but he enjoyed great success along with some rather spectacular failures. But he never quit trying - working way beyond when most would have walked away. You have to admire the man.

It is sad that such a wonderful family man and industry voice has been silenced. He will be missed greatly. Maybe all his visions will come true now as he moves on. Blessings to his family.

Apple Macintosh Computer Legacy.

When our computerless older son went off to college, in his freshman year he met a bright & attractive girl who not only had wonderful personal qualities, but also had the special advantage of owning her very own brand-new Apple Macintosh computer.

The 2 soon became acquainted. She let him use the Mac. They became good friends, then became more than friends, then fell in love.

After college, they went on to graduate school together. After that, they got married. In due time, they became parents of our grandson, now age 9. (He has his own Apple Macintosh computer).

Thank you, Steve Jobs.

In terms of "forward thinking", I think a great thing Steve did was resign from Apple a few months ago. It was mentioned he had a wife and 4 children, and was a private person at home. Whether he was just weaker, or knew he was about to die, hopefully he got to spend what turned out to be his last days with family and friends. I think it would have been sad if he had spent that time at work, perhaps being one of many that your hear, "die on the job."

I'm not an Apple fanboy and I actually prefer Windows 7 over OS X, but I certainly do LOVE my iPhone and really like my iPad.

I have IMMENSE respect for Steve Jobs and he was a true innovator and visionary! People like to criticize him for not being involved with charitable foundations or what others think he should of done with his fortune or with Apple (see the other sour grapes thread), but that wasn't his DNA. Instead of walking away like Gates and others, he continued to innovate and was determined to change the world through his innovations. I actually think he stepped it up after his devastating diagnosis because he knew his time was limited and he wanted to get as much innovation out of him as possible before he was gone.

Steve sought to change the world - Mission Accomplished!
