I own at the club regency on marco island, FL. RCI lists my fixed 2 bedroom weeks as red season (4800 pts) but HGVC has them as silver (3500 pts). When trading using RCI, can I take advantage of my weeks being red season?

Can I deposit my weeks directly into RCI to get more RCI points?

Can I trade my 2 bedroom red week for another 2 bedroom red week using RCI?

You can only deposit your week into RCI points if you have a points membership. It is possible for you to own a week at an designated RCI Points resort, but your underlying week is still in weeks.

Is this resort an RCI points resort?
Does this resort charge a fee to convert a week to RCI points? Many do.

Just because you own a week at an rci points resort, does NOT automatically mean you have access to RCI Points. Ask your property manager.

Since this resort is an affiliate you have a choice over what to do with your week. Use it, deposit it in RCI weeks, (not sure if it is dual listed, if so you may also be able to deposit into II), deposit it in HGVC, deposit it in another independant exchange company (SFX, DAE, Etc), or use it.

Trading in RCI either points or weeks is based on currency. IN weeks you get TPU (Trade Power units, I think). In points you get points. You can get any week in RCI that you have sufficient currency to trade into.

So you need to know what points you get from RCI Weeks or RCI Points? Where do you want to go? and How many points/TPU does it cost to go there?

So simple answer is you may not be able to go anywhere you want to go for a red week in a 2 BR. It depends, 2 BR red in the middle of the country, like Branson, may be worth a lot less then a 2 BR red Holiday or Spring week in the Caribbean.

I did not look up the points for you specific resort because I do not have the time this exact moment, but you should do some research to figure our how much money you get, and where is the best system that you can spend it in.

RCI and HGVC do not define red weeks the same. RCI is very generous in their definition of red weeks in Florida where HGVC is more realistic that there are pink weeks as well.

Luckily for you Club Regency does not participate in the RCI points program and therefore qualifies to do a points for deposit into RCI points. Depending on your week will determine how many points you will receive from RCI points. You need to already own an RCI points account property in order to do this, otherwise you will have to deposit this in the TPU points on the weeks side of RCI, which is a different points program altogether.

Here is a grid of the points for deposit to RCI points that you would receive for your week.
http://www.rci.com/docs/KnowledgeBase/Attachments/2009_ConversionGrids.pdf

Once you know how many points you will receive for your week then you will have an idea if you can trade into another resort with the points you receive. Some resorts will be more and some less than what you own so you may or may not be able to do an equitable trade.

If you give us the week and unit number we could look up the TPU's for you.

I am a member of HGVC which let's me use RCI through HGVC's account. I see HGVC point values for weeks when logged into RCI. Would I need to have a "regular" RCI account? I have week 42 c103 and week 49 c302. Both are pool-side.

If HGVC says that your unit is only worth 'x' number of HGVC points in our system, that's all you get to work with... whether using them for HGVC or RC. Even if it it would cost someone else more to book your unit or if your unit "goes for" more in RCI's system, you still only get the HGVC points you are alotted by HGVC.

You might do better if you bypass HGVC altogether and use a personal RCI membership to make your exchange. You'd need your own personal RCI account, if you do not have one already. Then, for any year you want to make your own RCI exchange, jus' tell HGVC to take a hike. But there are no guarantees that you would do better, either.
