we need an overnite hotel while going to mcCormick Place.
there are no vacancies nearby so we are looking below the center 10+ miles toward indiana. are there areas we would be best not to stay?

Not to be too flip about it, but anywhere south of McCormick.

I grew up in the Chicago 'burbs. Admittedly, it's been 30 years since I spent time around there, but unless things have changed drastically, you do not want to be on the south side of Chicago.

I'll second that! How about closer to Ohare airport or NW suburbs?

I have narrowed it down to calumet city or alsip.
both are Baymont Inn. both seem to be the same distance from here and from the hotel to mcCormick.

that's a long drive with heavy traffic. i personally wouldn't stay in Calumet City or Alsip (grew up on south sides of Chicago, family all lives in these suburbs, went to school, then taught in those suburbs.
