We own a 2 Bdrm lockoff at Sheraton Vistana Resort and we are extremely happy with it. We got lucky and bought it for $1 on ebay.

Because it's a resale we don't get the StarOptions benefits so we can only use our resort within the Sheraton system - can't tradeunless we join RCI or the other one. Sooo, I wondered if we could buy into the Sheraton trading system. I thought maybe $5000 and that would get all the benefits. I was so wrong.

They offered to take back our current unit and give us points for it but we would have to buy an additional 2 bdr for....wait for it....$21,000!!

Why the heck would I do that??? I already have a unit that I love and I got it for a buck! How illogical is this 'deal'? I could just join one of the trading companies and pay $150 or whatever it is to trade.

Anyway, I said no and that was that. How can they make these 'offers' without laughing?

This is what's commonly called "requalifying" here on TUG, but it's generally not a good deal, unless:

-you have a plan to go all the way to 5 Star Elite (requires buying many weeks)
-you have the ability and desire, to fully utilize SPG Platinum
-you have the wherewithal to spend this kind of money, upfront, and ongoing with the maintenance fees
-you can actually utilize this many weeks of ownership.

It's definitely an advanced strategy, and probably isn't for most people.
