Three years ago I spent this same week at Timberlodge and there were Marriott salespeople everywhere. Two or three were standing outside in front of the resort flagging down tourists, one was at a display by the Gondola, and there were several set up at booths at Harrah’s and Harvey’s. Today: none!!! I’m sure there are salespeople in the house (they had a seminar on the new points system this morning that we avoided). But the difference is striking.

It’s also interesting that the timeshare resort that was started across the street three or four years ago (they poured the foundation) is still a big empty pit.

This is a beautiful resort. We really enjoy it here. But it cost us $300 for the week, for two bedrooms (through Interval’s Getaway). I’m so glad we didn’t purchase a timeshare here (I was tempted at the time, but someone on TUG told me to forget it – great advice).

The place across the street was full ownership condos and fractionals. They went bankrupt. We were told by a local that an investor considered buying it, but when they tested the foundation, they found out that the cement was defective.

We were recently at MOC for two weeks. The sales gallery was very slow. One or two tables in use at peak times. No one at the tables other times. Very different from 2008. There were reps sitting at kiosks on the resort path. I think Marriott is going to have to adjust their points program to stay in business.

We were at Timber Lodge the first two weeks in August when the resort was packed and no one hit us up for a timeshare presentation. The main action in the sales gallery was trying to get owners to convert to the new points system and trying to sell them more points. We went to the points presentation and they seemed to convince most atendees (virtually all of whom bought directly from Marriott) to convert.

We now own 4 summer weeks that we use - great to spend the hottest part of the summer at Tahoe and get away from the 95+ degree days here in Texas. I don't think you'll find a prime summer or winter ski week for $300.

Snow

It rained all day Sunday. But it's beautiful now. The mountain tops are dusted with snow. You skiers must be getting anxious to get into snow season - it's won't be long now!

DeniseM: That is really interesting about the poor condition of the cement foundation. What a waste of money.

Lisa,

I was recently in Maui and noticed more Marriott kiosks than there were on my last visit. I believe there is one near Whaler's Village, as well as in front of the Marriott. I did not attend a presentation, but did ask to see the model in the Napili building. We could only see it with a salesman. He told us Hawaii's economy was not affected by the recession, like the rest of the states.:hysterical: My husband asked the price of a week in the oceanfront 2 Br., 2 Ba, and was told about $80,000. Of course, he knew we would not buy. The unit was beautiful, but the view was the same as the view in the Molokai unit we traded into. I would never spend that much money for one week (points) of timeshare. I just worry about how exchanging will be affected by the points system.

You Can Buy Mine!!!

If you change your mind, and you decide to buy one for $80,000 - YOU CAN HAVE MINE!!!!! Maybe even for $70,000, as a big favor to you, or maybe $60, or maybe....
