RCI points come with sale, I don't want them.

I'm looking on eBay and found a resort of interest to me. It comes with 106,000 RCI points and they want $200 to open a RCI points account.

MFs for this are $1,000.

If I totally lose my mind and bid on this I do not want anything to do with an RCI account.

The unit floats 1-52 and I'm assuming if I don't pay to join RCI the unit will revert back to its pre-point status.

Is this the case?

Usually it is best to inform the resort and make sure they inform RCI in addition to not setting up the points account. Also remember that points are automatically assigned 12 months before the current owners use year so you might not have an actual week available that you can use until 2015 or 2016 depending on the use year of the current owner.

I bought a points week set up the points account but never used the points. i gave them away here on tug...(could have sold them) and didnt pay my next RCI points membership fee. The week reverted to being just a week, and I am now able to use it, or deposit it to my weeks account.

In your case Id consider how often you see these weeks come available, look at the cost of setting up the account and the lost points as part of the purchase price...If it still makes sense, go ahead and lose your mind and do it, Otherwise wait for a straight week

Thanks for the help, I see there is a lot more to look into on a deal like this than on a straight weeks purchase.

I had two like this and I had to contact the management company and they
Contacted RCI to get it out of the points program. It took about a week but they
Were taken out of the program and I was able to make regular reservations.

I have a unit in RCI points which I'm planning on getting out of points.
Maybe whoever is doing the deed transfer notification, sends to RCI your signed intent not to enroll in RCI?

btw RCI points contracts are for 3 years, and start with your RCI membership.
So don't get the RCI membership at all.

I was told by my Starwood TS mgmt, that they had to be notified by RCI, that I was no longer exchanging in points in order to exchange with SVN or II.
I think if our unit was in RCI in weeks, it would be much, much simpler.

Thank you all.

Since it looks like the only way I could use the 2014 ownership is through the use of RCI points this is not going to work for me even for a $1 price tag.

I will however use all this valuable info the next time I come across a unit I like that is currently in RCI points.

I will take those off your hands :)

I have nothing to give anyone.

This auction would require me to pay the 2014 MFs and as was pointed out to me, If I want to get something for that payment I would need to add the $200 fee to get the points account and use those points.

If the seller was paying the 2014 fees then it wouldn't matter what happened to the points.

The unit is not worth the extra $1,200 to me.

Nothings simple in Timeshare World.
