I like to buy new technology gadgets. I'll usually use them for a couple of months and if I find myself not using it too much I'll sell them to one of my office staff for typically much less then what I bought it for and less then what they're going for on eBay.. My staff usually gobbles that stuff up. I've sold android tablets, older iPhones, netbooks and laptops.

About 3 months ago I bought a Dell Venue 8 Pro at Costco which has a full version of Windows 8.1, 64GB of memory and a full version of MS Office. It's actually a nice looking tablet that responded well to touch motions. However, since it sat on my desk the last 2 months unused I decided to sell it. I sent out an email to my staff and the response I got was...crickets! They're just not interested in Windows Tablets. So, for the first time in many years I had to list it on eBay.

BTW, I'm becoming a fan of cheap Android tablets with Jelly Bean or higher. Setting up a kids user account with limitations is very useful and it's my preferred device now for my young kids.

Windows is one of those "late to the game" systems. Apple and Android tablets "ruled the roost" before Microsoft got into the game. To date, Windows is lacking on apps, compared with Android (Play Store) and Apple (AppStore). Plus, Windows has NEVER been synonymous with reliability or security.

HVC: The Point at Poipu, 3 deeded weeks, 1 of which is in The Club.
Here's my Windows 8.1 predictions:
1) on smart phones - doomed. Looks like another Zune fiasco.
2) on tablets - will survive, but will only be purchased by viewers of Hawaii-50, NCIS, CSI, etc (excellent product placement Microsoft!)
3) on laptops and PC's - how can it not survive? Most people can't afford Apple and can't understand Linux.

Ah,but here's the thing, Android is becoming a very sophisticated operating system, there are many people who's complete computer needs are served by an iPad or Android tablet with bluetooth keyboard already. It is possible that Microsoft will maintain the desktop while losing mobile computing almost completely. In total number of devices Microsoft is already second to Android.

And this is yet another reason why it's critical for Microsoft Office on iPad (& Android) and Office 365 to be successful for MS.
