If I have Southwest travel funds for say $500, do I have to use it on a ticket that is at least that cost? Or if it is less, will SW let me keep the difference to be used against another flight? Sorry if the answer is common knowledge, but I am new to SW.

Southwest will let you use it on a ticket of lesser value and hold the rest for future use. However, it does have to be used within one year of the purchase of the original ticket-including travel-not just having the travel booked-the travel must be completed.

I just had to inquire about this. You can use any amount. It is like a bank account. However, the funds only last for one year, so you need to use them before they expire. That, I was not aware of. Also, they do not show you your $$$ credit balance on your account online. You have to keep track of it yourself, including expiration dates and the confirmation code the booking was made with.

And to add....SW will only allow you to use the credit for the same person the original ticket was for.

You can extend a ticket buy paying a fee and you can let another person use the ticket. This I something I have done. also you can transfer Points to another Rapid rewards account, also for a fee, they had a special if you transferred at least 20,000 points they would give you extra bonus points depending how many point you transfer. Go to the web page southwest.com. We have made use of our Rapid rewards points many times!

While you used to be able to use travel funds for anyone, now they can only be used for the original ticketed passenger. Or, are you saying they can be used for someone else for an additional fee?

I don't think you can transfer travel funds to another person. I am pretty sure they can only be used by the originally ticketed passenger.

That's what I think. As I posted you used to be able to do this, and it was a wonderful option. However, that ended a few years back.

I'm still questioning the person who posted that it can be done if they are talking about doing it with an extra fee. I already know you can transfer points to someone else, for a fee.

I should have quoted your post. That's what prompted me to respond myself.

You can extend for 6 months for $100 per ticket.
Hope this helps!

Agree.

My wife and I each had credit from a cancelled flight. I tried to use the credit(s) for the two of us for a more expensive trip on which my daughter would be joining us. It would not work. I had to use the credit for my wife and me only and then book my daughter's flight on a separate confirmation.
