has anyone noticed the new EARLY BIRD charge on SWA.? i travel on SWA quite frequently. most times, the trips require at least 1 stop over as they do NOT offer non-stop to my destination. this morning i was booking a trip requiring a stop over in BWI. now they are charging the " EARLY BIRD" FEE of $12.50 on BOTH
legs of the trip. so, while they don't charge a fee for bags, they HAVE, increased the cost of the flight in addition to the higher cost of airfare.

That price was increased awhile ago. So, yes I've noticed it. I still think it's a good trade off for not having to pay for up to TWO checked bags. And if you don't want to board early, you don't have to pay.

That must be recent, because I just flew a week ago and had a connecting flight. I was only charged once for the EBCI.

Ooops, didn't see that the charge was for both legs of the trip. The flights I've taken recently on SW have all been nonstop. Maybe there has been a change recently.

I would think if there had been a change like that it would have been discussed over at flyertalk, but I haven't seen anything.

OP, are you saying that you were flying something like LGA->MDW->LAS and you were charged $12.50 for each leg ($50 round trip)?

I don't think this is accurate. I have a trip planned so I went into SW and started the process of being EBCI. It was only going to charge me $12.50 for my one way that has a stop.

Maybe OP has round trip purchased, that would cause the $25 charge. Or maybe two travelers on one reservation. Or did you purchase the two segments separately?

I also frequent flyertalk....no mention there and they would have been all over this kind of increase.

OP...double check your account. You shouldn't have the double charge

cancelation fees SWA?

As long as we are discussing SWA I have another question. My son in law probably will not be able to fly with us in Sept to Orlando. Can I cancel and retain the value of the ticket?

Yes. A couple of caveats:

1. The credit is only good for a flight for him. Can't be transferred.

2. To make use of the credit, the new flight must COMPLETE within one year of when the old ticket was PURCHASED.
