Does anyone know the best way to get from Grand Chateau to South Point? Cab? Shuttle?

I'd jump in the rental car and drive. There's just too much to do in too many places to satisfactorily use public transport, and it wouldn't take many taxi rides to surpass the cost of a rental car.

I agree with Jim. Here's the Southpoint shuttle schedule. It seems like it would be kind of a hassle to use it considering the walking that would be necessary to get to the Aria pick-up point.

If you plan to just go to the Southpoint once during the week, a cab would probably be the best way. But, if you think you're going to want to be able to explore a lot of places, rent a car.

I don't know if the SouthPoint shuttle will pick them up at Aria or not. They aren't suppose to if the person can't show a room key for the hotel that runs the Shuttle, SouthPoint in this case. It is actually against the law for them to pick up others, since they are not "for hire," unlike a taxi, the trolley, or Bell Transit.

Cab is expensive. Can't remember the price, but our son did that after begin assured by the cab company it would be a fairly low price.

Sorry for my ignorance, but what is special about the South Point Casino? Sounds like there is stuff to do there, but what? I'm curious, because we will be going to Vegas and are looking of things to do.

I just called AWG Ambassador who operates the shuttle and asked them if someone who wasn't staying at South Point could get on the shuttle at Aria or the other two stops on the Strip. They said that would be fine as long as they pay the $8 cash round trip price. No problem.

We've taken that shuttle - they WANT people go to to South Point, and are happy to pick up any paying customers up at the designated stops.

We like South Point too. It's a newer, big, airy place - it feels fresh, compared to a lot of the main "strip" casinos. It's also a more moderately priced "locals" type place. It has several types of restaurants, with good, inexpensive food, and a variety of non-gambling amenities - we just like the atmosphere.

It has a bowling alley, multi-screen theater with $4 movies for seniors with players card up until 4 pm on weekdays, and a huge equestrian center for competitions and shows.

We like South Point and typically go there at least once per trip. Having said that, if I didn't have a rental car it wouldn't be worth the price of a taxi to get there. South Point is 5 miles down the road from Mandalay Bay. According to this taxi fare estimator site http://www.taxifarefinder.com/ , it would cost $21.35 to go from Mandalay Bay to South Point. From Grand Chateau it estimates $25.87 one way in "light" traffic. No way is it worth $50 round trip to go to South Point using a taxi IMHO.

With all the taxes, fee's and facility charges, a rental car for 4 nights only came to $98. You have to shop and watch rates but it's not usually that difficult to get a good deal on a rental car in Vegas. We barely used the car this last trip (66 total miles) but I'm reasonably certain it was much cheaper than taking taxi's and, the car was always ready when we were. No standing in what can at times be long cab lines or waiting for one to pull into our resort. Taxi's don't always frequent timeshare resorts because they don't always have a need vs hotels where there's nearly always someone standing in line for a cab.

Thanks for all the info. I think we will keep the rental car. (we only have it for 2 out of 5 days (picking up on strip) because we knew we'd have plenty to see on the strip since we haven't been there for 12 years) I had suspected that cab fare would be too high to be practical and the bus (forgot the name of it) - looks like it takes forever to get the 5-6 miles down the strip. Good news that they will accept paying customers on the South Point shuttle, though - I thought it was only for hotel guests. We may use that option if we decide to go back to South Point after we return the car. Karen, thanks for taking the time to check on this.

Where are the other two stops on the strip?

You are very welcome. The other two stops are Treasure Island and Excalibur.
