I am looking to rent from a person on redweek and they sent me a copy of the confirmation, but are asking for a certified check. Is this customary? I am a novice at renting, so any input would be appreicated.

Thank YOu

Not out of the question for someone that's been burned by a bad check and doesn't want to use electronic money. For me, it would not be a reason to not do business with them.

There's nothing wrong with asking for a certified check, but unless the rental is occurring in a couple of a weeks, it would deter me as a renter from using them.

Frankly, it's a hassle for me to go down to my bank and have a certified check issued (not to mention, some banks charge a fee). If renting, I would only pay by electronic means or personal check -- in which case I would understand if the person renting would want to wait 5 business days for the check to clear before sending me confirmation.
