Ridesharing service Uber has inked an agreement with Starwood Hotels & Resorts which would now allow riders to earn Starpoints that can be redeemed at the hotel group’s properties around the globe. This partnership is truly the first of its kind as none of Uber’s rivals are doing something like this. Hotel groups like Starwood already allow their customers to earn points if they travel on certain airlines or use credit cards from certain banks so this partnership isn’t something unique if you look from their perspective.
In order to earn points for Uber rides customers have to be Starwood Preferred Guest or SPG members. The SPG awards program is free so signing up isn’t a hassle at all. Members will then be able to earn points for any ride that they take on Uber.
In order to take advantage of this partnership Uber users need to link their accounts at spg.com/uber. Once they complete a qualifying stay at any Starwood hotel, the SPG members will earn one Starpoint for every $1 spent on Uber. This is separate from any bonus Starpoints accumulated during stay at a Starwood hotel.
Starwood is home to nine distinct brands, Aloft, Element, Four Points, Le Meridien, Sheraton, St. Regis, The Luxury Collection, W Hotels and Westin, so its not that hard to find a property owned by the group wherever you might be in the world.
