I noticed on redweek.com listings for rental that indicates the view varies (neither ocean or island). The renter then indicates the units are assigned at check-in and a ocean view will be requested. I thought people purchased one or the other and owners get what they own. Is this misleading?

If you make a reservation using Staroptions, your confirmation says "floating view," and it's assigned by the front desk at check-in. The owner can request a building and a high or low floor.

You do buy a specific view, but to get that view you have to make the reservation more than 8 months in advance. If you make it less than 8 months in advance, you are not guaranteed what view you will get. The room will indeed be assigned at check-in.
