I was reading a very old thread today about buying timeshares from a tax auction. One person commented (without explaining) that you could identify what week you were buying from the APN number. Does anyone know how this works?

Last night I was browsing through a site where a bunch of timeshares are coming up for sale in San Luis Obispo in May, but the property descriptions were very vague. It was not clear which weeks you were buying, although I believe some of them come with certain deeded weeks attached.

Thanks for the info!

It all depends on whether the tax records are searchable online and whether the short description of the parcel is explicit enough to give you the information you need. This would depend on a county by county basis. Sometimes the tax records are descriptive enough and sometimes they are not.

If the county recorder has their records online, I believe it is far easier to search by the original deed. Then you can cross-reference the original deed to the condo declarations/CC&Rs to find the unit maps and associated sizes.

Good luck.
