Exchanged for 2 units, (2BR and 1BR), in Hilton Head for this summer. Originally planned for 2 of our children to bring friends, (young adults). A month ago, my daughter had to drop out due to her attending a summer session at college, (and thus, her friend also dropping out of the trip). Just this past week, my oldest told us he may have a job interview scheduled the week we are to be in HH. (He's a recent college grad, and the importance of the job interview/possibly attaining a full time teaching position outweighs the trip to HH.) Thus, both he and his friend are probable "drop outs" of the trip. So, now down to just 3 of us. With less than a week to go before our trip.....do I cancel the one unit? I know I will lose the exchange fee....will I be able to salvage any TPU credit?
Trust me, the minute I found out about the first "dropout", I offered others the unit: friends, family, co-workers.....noone is able to take us up on the offer to join us in Hilton Head. :( Right now, I'm not even looking forward to the trip anymore. The long drive & thought of just 3 of us, (with hubby & son golfing quite a few of the days), is no longer the "family vacation" I had planned.

I may be wrong, but unless you purchased the insurance when you booked the week, I think you're out of luck on salvaging the TPUs.

I found this on the RCI website. It doesn't say how much the value will be diminished, but it sure sounds like it will be.

What is Trading Power Protection?

RCI is pleased to offer Trading Power Protection for exchange vacations. This protects the Deposit Trading Power that you have used toward an exchange vacation to ensure peace of mind in the event that you need to change or cancel for any reason.

The cost of Trading Power Protection is $49 USD/$53 CAD** if purchased within 30 days or $89 USD/$97 CAD if purchased 31 days or more after booking the exchange vacation, and it will apply to cancellations made for any reason for exchange vacations. Trading Power Protection cannot be purchased within 14 days of the check-in date. Trading Power Protection can be refunded if the purchase is cancelled by close of business the day after purchase, as long as check-in is at least 14 days away.

Exchange fee will be gone. If you purchased insurance I believe you will get all TPUs back.

If not....I think you will save 45% of it. Look at your confirmation for that exchange....RCI spells it all out for you on it.

Called RCI this morning. If I cancel the 1 BR, I will lose 12 of the 22 points. (Didn't buy insurance, as this is the one trip that everyone has gone on for over 10+ years). I can still purchase insurance....but now $89, thus keeping the 22 points. Still holding out a slim hope that someone within our family/friends/co-workers will be able to come with us on this trip. Or that my son's interview will be scheduled this week.;) Thanks for your help.
