I'm new to TUG and wow, what a fantastic focus of information about timeshares! I have owned a timeshare for many years and have loved all the great places I've traveled because of it.

I was wondering, when working with Hawaii timeshare resales, do agents/brokers legally need to be licensed in the State of Hawaii in order to sell for compensation? This may be a question for an attorney, just wondering if anyone here has already researched it?

Thank you!

I sold a Hawaii timeshare on eBay and used LT Transfers on the east coast to handle the ownership transfer documents. The only Hawaii requirement was if an escrow was involved it must be a Hawaiian company. We got around that by the buyer sending LT a cashiers check, they held it until the transfer completed then sent to me. The buyer lived in Hawaii.

Hi Dave,
Thank you for your input about the closing company, I've been reading about LT Transfers in some of the other posts, good to know they continue to have such a good reputation.

My question centers on whether or not who you are paying a commission to as part of the sales agreement has to be a Hawaii licensed real estate agent/broker for timeshare properties located in Hawaii. In Arizona I believe it is a felony offense for someone to sell a timeshare if they are not the owner or properly licensed in Arizona.

Thanks again!

Well, if you insist on using an agent to list it for you I can recommend Syed Sarmad. He is located in Maui and is licensed there. I purchased a replacement for the one I sold through Syed. You can google his name to see his web site with listings and contact info. He can tell you what a fair price is for your TS.
