I just went through this with our fixed week 30 at Harborside. Yes, you can float BUT there are rules and consequences.
If you own a fixed week at Harborside, it is automatically reserved for you each year. But, you have to call and confirm the week before 10 months out. At 10 months, if you have not confirmed the week, it is canceled. If you want to reserve something earlier than July 4, you can "float" and begin calling 12 months for the desired date. However, if there is no week available, you cannot be on the wait list UNLESS you agree to cancel your fixed week reservation. For example, my fixed week is late July. I wanted an earlier June/July week for next year. I called every week at 12 months out and there was nothing. Since Harborside summer is difficult to reserve (Gold season includes MANY weeks that kids are in school), I was advised by Starwood NOT to be on a waitlist b/c I would have to cancel my fixed week reservation and I was not guaranteed another summer reservation. This is frustrating b/c many of the summer weeks you might want are also owned by fixed week owners.
So the inventory is very dynamic between 8 and 12 months out as those owners are trying to decide what to do. People do clear the waitlist, but as a fixed week owner, you can't have a reservation as well as a spot on the wait list (unless you have a certain level of elite status which we don't have as a single week owner). As for next year, I could not find anything when I called every day so I kept my fixed week reservation.
I would advise calling every day to see if there is the week they want OR try to trade with another fixed week Harborside owner. I would not give up a fixed summer holiday week without a reservation in hand for another summer week.
Good Luck!!
